Seven Newfie Moose

Away up at the North Pole
where Santa lives all year,
'Twas time for reindeer roundup now,
for Christmas time was near;
The reindeer were all sickly
from eating tainted moss,
The elves were first to notice it
and they went to the boss.

They said "We have a problem,
for tomorrow's Christmas Eve,
And if the reindeer cannot fly,
the sleigh of toys can't leave."
But Santa said, "Don't worry,
I will get some substitutes."
And so he came to Newfoundland
to find some Newfie moose.

Seven Newfie moose, flying through the night,
Kicking up their heels, what a funny sight;
Prancing on the rooftops all along the way,
Seven Newfie Moose were pulling Santa's sleigh.

Now, moose are clumsy creatures
and their I.Q. isn't high,
But Santa was determined
that they would learn to fly;
He put them through their paces,
the elves all shook their heads,
They told him to forget it
and hire a jet instead.

With harness bells a-jingling,
he led them through the snow,
When he said "left" they all turned right,
they stopped when he said "go."
The moose were very stubborn
and were very hard to teach,
Until he filled their water pails
with good old Newfie screech.

Seven Newfie moose, flying through the night,
Kicking up their heels, what a funny sight;
Prancing on the rooftops all along the way,
Seven Newfie Moose were pulling Santa's sleigh.

Then like a speeding bullet
they flew off into the night,
And you can bet they did not miss
a single house that night;
The crisis now was over
so they turned the reindeer loose,
On Christmas Eve the sleigh was pulled
by seven Newfie Moose.

Now if you're on the island
on Christmas Eve this year,
Be careful with the Newfie screech,
it's stronger than a beer;
And if you're walking homeward
and you look up in the sky,
Don't be surprised if you should see
a moose go flying by.

Seven Newfie moose, flying through the night,
Kicking up their heels, what a funny sight;
Prancing on the rooftops all along the way,
Seven Newfie Moose were pulling Santa's sleigh.
