Newfoundland Forever (Celtic Connection)

As the sea rolled high against her bow,
And the wind she rode uncertain,
With a crew of men as hardy as had ever sailed the sea,
John Cabot led their journey in a ship they called the Matthew,
And all of them unsure of what their destiny would be.

It was fourteen ninety-seven and the spring was coming on,
With the voyage taking longer than the crew had ever planned;
The ship rose on the water and the sun broke through the clouds,
And it shone upon the shores of Newfoundland.

Newfoundland forever will be,
Newfoundland forever surrounded by sea;
And whatever the hardships and storms we must weather,
We're people who've made it by standing together.

Five hundred years have come and gone,
This island's seen some change;
This land once called 'the land of fish' now hardly seems the same,
But we will rise up once again like so many times before,
And we'll stand up together, Newfoundlanders all forever more.

Newfoundland forever will be,
Newfoundland forever surrounded by sea;
And whatever the hardships and storms we must weather,
We're people who've made it by standing together.

And from forefathers to fathers yet to be,
For every hand that hauled a net out on our sea,
For those who braved the winter winds and tilled the soil in spring,
Who rose above the hardships that this island life would bring,
It's those people who, in spite of all, built homes upon her shore,
And gave a heart and soul to Newfoundland and Labrador.

Newfoundland forever will be,
Newfoundland forever surrounded by sea;
And whatever the hardships and storms we must weather,
We're people who've made it by standing together.

Newfoundland forever will be,
Newfoundland forever surrounded by sea;
And whatever the hardships and storms we must weather,
We're people who've made it by standing together.

Together forever...
Forever and ever...
