Be Proud You're A Newfie

The old man was pacing the floor up and down,
Hiding his tears, with his head hanging down;
His last son was packing his suitcase to go,
In search of the rainbow and the big pot of gold.

He said, Son, you'll see places and the strangest of things,
You'll cross many bridges before I see you again;
So write to your momma, God bless her soul,
And be proud you're a Newfie wherever you go.

Don't try to be someone that no one can touch,
And always help someone who's down on their luck;
If you find a good woman, you give her your love,
Be proud of your wages and thank God above.

He said, Son, you'll see places and the strangest of things,
You'll cross many bridges before I see you again;
So write to your momma, God bless her soul,
And be proud you're a Newfie wherever you go.

Son, money means nothing to a man without friends,
Smile when you lose and don't brag when you win;
Owe no man nothing and don't reach too high,
Be happy, be careful, I love you, goodbye.

He said, Son, you'll see places and the strangest of things,
You'll cross many bridges before I see you again;
So write to your momma, God bless her soul,
And be proud you're a Newfie wherever you go.
