I'm a hearty old sailor from the Newfoundland shore,
I fish for me livin' on the wild Labrador;
Oh, with me fishin' all over me work is all done,
Well I'm goin' out tonight with me rubber boots on.

I ate up me supper then shaved off me beard,
For courtin' indeed I was always prepared;
Oh with me day's work all over and the night comin' on,
I remember that night with me rubber boots on.

I knocked on her door and me knock it was low,
From out of her slumber me knock she did know;
She came to the door and said "Is that you, Tom?"
"Well it is, love," said I, "with me rubber boots on."

She opened the door and invited me in,
Then up to her bedroom she said, "Come on in."
She jumped on the bed with the blankets rolled on,
And I hopped in beside her with me rubber boots on.

Well, daylight next mornin' with the sun in the sky,
I turned to me true love to say goodbye;
She said, "Now don't you leave me, don't you know you done wrong,
And you slept here all night with them rubber boots on."

Well I turned to me true love with a wink and a smile,
I said, "Nothing could happen in such a short while;
And whatever I did, love, I did it for fun."
So I hopped out of bed with me rubber boots on.

Well then nine months later I was dragged into court,
A hundred bucks a week I was fined for me sport;
'Twas a whole pile of money from a fisherman's son,
I regretted that night with me rubber boots on.

Well now I'm back fishin' and I'm happy for sure,
'Cause I'll get all my stamps on the wild Labrador;
And when he gets bigger I'll take 'long me son,
And he'll jig the codfish with his rubber boots on.
Yes when he gets bigger I'll take 'long me son,
And we'll both jig codfish with our rubber boots on.

Intro: [G]

I'm a hardy old [C] sailor from [D] Newfoundland's [G] shore,
I've fished for me livin' on the [C] wild Labra- [D] dor;
Now the [G] fishin's all over, me [C] work is all [D] done,
And I'm [G] goin' out to- [C] night with me [D] rubber boots [G] on.

So I ate up me [C] supper and I [D] shaved off me [G] beard,
For courtin' indeed I was [C] highly pre- [D] pared;
With the [G] day's work all over and the [C] night comin' [D] on,
I re- [G] member that [C] night with me [D] rubber boots [G] on.

I knocked on her [C] door and me [D] knock it was [G] low,
And out of her slumber my [C] knock she did [D] know;
She [G] came to the door and said [C] "Is that you, [D] Tom?"
"It [G] is, love," said [C] I, "with me [D] rubber boots [G] on."

She opened the [C] door and in- [D] vited me [G] in,
And into her bedroom she in- [C] vited me [D] in;
She [G] jumped on the bed with the [C] blankets rolled [D] on,
And I [G] hopped in be- [C] side her with me [D] rubber boots [G] on.

Well, daylight next [C] mornin' with the [D] sun in the [G] sky,
I turned to me true love to [C] say good- [D] bye;
She [G] said "Don't you leave me, don't you [C] know you done [D] wrong,
For you [G] slept here all [C] night with your [D] rubber boots [G] on."

I turned to me [C] true love with a [D] wink and a [G] smile,
I said, "Nothing could happen in [C] such a short [D] while;
What- [G] ever I did, love, I [C] did it for [D] fun."
And I [G] hopped out of [C] bed with me [D] rubber boots [G] on.

It being nine months [C] later I was [D] summoned to [G] court,
Ten shillings a week I was [C] fined for me [D] sport;
Ten [G] shillings a week from a [C] fisherman's [D] son,
I re- [G] gretted that [C] night with me [D] rubber boots [G] on.

Ah, but now I'm back [C] fishin', I'm [D] happy for [G] sure,
I'll make them ten shillings on the [C] wild Labra- [D] dor;
And [G] when he gets bigger I'll [C] take 'long me [D] son,
And he'll [G] catch those cod- [C] fish with his [D] rubber boots [G] on.
