This page has now been
dedicated as a
Memorial to Vernon Rider and his little puppy
"Button"

Many years
ago Vernon built log rings and owned and ran a tug boat to pull
them thru Deception Pass when the tide was at rest.

Something new in
our experience of life
Vernon, Princess
Chilli Pepper and Button

Lois and I
were so fortunate to have been asked to care give Vernon for one
week. We had a grand week. This was the first time in my life
that I have ever care given. We know it was not easy for Vernon's
son Don to ask us to care give. When he asked me for thoughts on
it I knew the Holy Spirit simply gave me the answer to say yes.
There was no thinking it over or discussing with Lois. The answer
came immediately.
On Vernon's
last day with us he had an excellent day, a great meeting with
the nurse, ate with the appetite of a 21 year old and left on the
afternoon of September 17 with his son Don. Before leaving
Vernon, wished me a Happy Birthday.
Early in the
week Button took a real interest in Princess Chilli Pepper and
everything was going his way until the second night Pepper got a
little annoyed and reached out and popped him on the nose with
her right front paw. So he kept a little more distance after that
event.
In the above
photo we have a scowling glaring kitty and Button that is so
fantasized with Princess Chilli Pepper that he appears to be
singing about it.
During the
stay here Vernon had Button groomed. Doesn't he look
handsome?

The picture
on the upper left explains it all. Princess Chilli Pepper and
Button came within 7 inches of each other without a growl, or
hiss, and not even a pop on the nose with a paw. It lasted about
20 seconds and then Button returned to Vernon's lap and Pepper
settled down. That had taken nearly a week of negotiations by
Button and he looked very pleased..
Now that Button has left it
appears that Princess Chilli Pepper is missing both Button and
Vernon. We sure miss them.
