Gene's Brother and Sister

Duane Owen Still

February 08, 1927, Beach, ND - May 16, 2003, Seattle, WA
Laid to rest May 24, 2003 at "Greenwood Memorial Park", Renton, WA.

My Sister and I will long remember "Greenwood Memorial Park" as the final resting place of one of North Dakota's finest baritone voices when Duane sung "Auld Lang Syne" and "Old Man River". We could hear him sing from a mile away over the prairie land of back home.

Duane served in World War II with the US Army in Germany.

The above pictures are of my brother Duane and my sister Yvonne. Duane passed away in May of 2003, and left us a gift picture sketched by himself. It is the greatest gift we could have received because I never knew he had the ability to sketch a face, yes, he did comedy sketches, and sketched pictures of cars and was very artistic with wood, building model airplanes and custom auto's and auto body restoration. I just have to thank him again for leaving this memory and sketch (shared with us on his final day of rest by Roger, his oldest son) that I could photo and place on this page. And WOW, how real this is of him. Thank you Roger for this sharing.

I kind of think my Sister, Yvonne would agree with my comments and could certainly add many more. I'll ask her to send me some to post here later. Thanks Yvonne for your great pose you gave me for this picture. Totally unrehearsed and caught on a moments notice. My only edit on this photo was to darken the background.

If you haven't figured out my age yet, I was the baby of the family and have many fond memories of my brother and sister.

Just Received From Yvonne As Private Email

The story you did on Duane on your web site is nice. The wonderful singing he did was while he, Shirley, and Bev (first cousins) and I were paddling around in a rowboat at night with the moon shining on the water and the local frogs croaking along the banks of Little Beaver Creek. I just remember how much fun it was and smile when I think of it.

We used to work in the garden together and when done, would lay on our backs and pick pictures out of the beautiful white fluffy thunderheads in the North Dakota sky. We also sang while Mother played the piano. When I was little he would hunt in the valley of the pasture for tiny buttercups and violets so that I could decorate my mudpies. We enjoyed flying kites, especially large ones our father would build for us.

Hope this will give you something to use from me. Just pick from those lines if you think anything is usable. One other thing---you commented that you were the "youngest" in the family! - At least Duane and I had hair!!! Ha!Ha! Love, Yvonne

Gosh, Yvonne is right, I don't have hair!
