In Search of Lost sites

There are many times i hear from people who after all the hard work put into a site the server vanishes.
It's a hard thing to imagine when one day you have a site you put hours, weeks, and years of work and thought into, and to click on your site and it's gone.
No warning and no reason, just leaving you there without anykind of hope or control.
This page is here to try and help you recover at least part of what you lost if not all.
The longer your site was up and veiwed the better the chances are of finding part of it.
I know there are probably tons of other ways to retrieve the missing stuff but this is what i have done to try and help others with some success.
Text sites are the easious but i have managed some image sites.

Before i go on i want to say how important it is to make a copy of your site on another server if your on webtv.

Make sure to try the URLs of all of your pages as maybe one or a few might of been cached somewhere.
Here is the Way Back machine... http://web.archive.org/collections/web.html If you have the correct site page URLs and the dates the site was made,it is possible that you might find some of your pages here and you can get some of the site back through here.

Another way is to try a search engine like google.
Go to Google and put your site url in and click search.
Then try clicking on Google's cache and you might get to your site as it was when google cached it.
You might not get your most recent version but it might help you rebuild.
Don't be afraid to try other searches as well.
Be sure and ask your friends for help as they might of liked a page of yours and transloaded it to get ideas from it.
It might give you some of the basic templates to rebuild and save a lot of writing.
I have my site at the Zone and i feel pretty comfortable there.
They have an off server page in the event of a server problem so to keep you informed of the trouble.
I personally like that and was never one that liked being left in the dark.
They work with webtvers in mind cause they have been there right where we are.
I don't plan on moving but i do have a portion of my site mirrored just in case of a malfunction beyone their control.
Lets face it....stuff happens...and it pays to be prepared.
I had a site back at talk city when i started out and one morning i went to check it out and it was gone and i never had it backed up.
I lost images that could never be replaced and long hours of work.
It was the worst feeling in the world but i didn't let it beat me and just moved on.
It was a hard lesson learned.
I welcome anyone with a page that would help with getting lost sites back to have a link on this page.
Don't be afraid to ask for help because someone might have better ways then above to get your stuff back.
Im still a beginner and will always be a beginner but will help with whatever i can to help you get back what was lost.
