MAX'S STORY

HI, I'M MAX

I was born on Feburary 1, 2000. It was a very cold winter day. I had several brothers and sisters. One day we all left our warm home and went outside. Our owner discovered we were missing and started looking for us. When we were found, my brothers and sisters were frozen to death and I was severly frost bitten on my ears. I was taken to the vet and he performed surgery on my ears. The frost bitten flappy part of my ear flaps was removed.

One of my owners lived and worked in Las Vegas as an entertainer. She also had a home in San Carlos Mexico. I got to be too much for her and she decided I had to go. I was going to be given to a local Mexican family until a man came along and said no. He said he would call someone and get me a good loving home.

The next thing I knew was that I was in a car. We traveled for hours and finally stopped in Tucson Az. We were in Tucson a short time and then an other man and woman came to the car. The lady talked to the man and the other man took me for a walk. I was confused and didn't know what was going on. We all went to lunch at an outdoor resturant that allows animals. After lunch we went back to the motel parking lot and my belongings were put in the other peoples van. They said goodbye and the three of us left Tucson headed for Phoenix.

I sat and slept on the lady's lap. I was still confused. We finally reached Phoenix and stopped at a house. It was their home. The other peoples names were Jim and Nancy I found out later. We turned into a driveway and Nancy said, " here is your new home Max'. I was carried into the house and set down by another dog that was running in circles. Jim said, "here is your new little brother Mike". He looked just like me except he had his ears. He was a Pug also. It is a rough time for me now.

A new home, lots of "NO" Max, lots of "good boy", lots of pets and lots of hugs. My new family sure is making me comfortable and welcome. Mike and I have lots of room to run and play and to get to be best friends.

One of Nancy's friends helps out at the Humane Society and sent the following poem to her. It express' my feelings also. I hope you enoy it.

Rescue Poem

Hi Nancy, I saw this poem on a rescue forum and it made me think of you and little Max. Hope you all are doing well. Diana

The Reason

I would have died that day if not for you
I would have given up on life if not for your kind eyes
I would have used my teeth in fear if not for your gentle hands
I would have left this life believing that all humans don't care
Believing that there is no such thing as fur that isn't matted, skin that isn't flea bitten, beds to sleep on, someone to love me, to show me
I deserve love just because I exist
Your kind eyes, your loving smile, your gentle hands
Your big heart saved me…
You saved me from the terror of the pound
Soothing away the memories of my old life
You have taught me what it means to be loved
I have seen you do the same for other dogs like me
I have heard you ask yourself in the time of despair why you do it. When there is no more money, no more room, no more homes
You open your heart a little bigger, stretch the money a little tighter, make just a little more room to save one more like me.
I tell you with gratitude and love that shines in my eyes, In the best way I know how
Reminding you why you go on trying.
I am the reason.
The dogs before me are the reason.
As are the ones who come after.
Our lives would have been wasted, our love never given
We would have died if not for you!
