Show Format
SEGMENT #1: Steve Allen does opening monologue about outlandish "inventions" the audience can look forward to seeing in the new year.
SEGMENT #2: Skit starring Judy Holliday as a woman who arrives in the middle of a movie and causes a commotion with the other audience members.
SEGMENT #3: Steve Allen introduces a song and dance number called "Two Ladies in the Shade of Da Banana Tree." It is performed by Rod Alexander, Bambi Linn, Carmen Guttierrez and Timmy Everett.
SEGMENT #4: Steve Allen introduces Dick Shawn who performs a stand-up comedy routine.
SEGMENT #5: Steve Allen introduces a skit starring Judy Holliday as "Kip Morley," a melodramatic Broadway star throwing a party to celebrate the opening of her latest show.
SEGMENT #6: Steve Allen plays the piano as he introduces the next musical number set in a Bowery cafe. Rod Alexander & Bambi Linn perform the "vignette" about a piano player and his girlfriend.
SEGMENT #7: Steve Allen plays the piano to "fill time." He is joined by a drummer and a bass player.
SEGMENT #8: Skit starring Judy Holliday (dressed as Harpo Marx) creating havoc in a fancy restaurant. Judy performs many of Harpo Marx's classic routines.
SEGMENT #9: Steve Allen introduces The Ritz Brothers, who perform 2 musical-comedy routines about Mexican disc jockeys and struggling composers. They finish up with 2 song and dance numbers.
SEGMENT #10: A song and dance number set in the Bavarian Alps featuring the entire cast. Followed by a curtain call for the stars.
