THE BIERLY REPORT COVER LETTER

July 12, 1951

Dear Lou:

You may recall during my last visit to your office, recital of facts in connection with Columbia's voluntary program designed to combat Communism and alert studio heads against attempts of subversives to infiltrate personnel and propaganda into pictures.

As part of this campaign we have retained [Name censored by the FBI. Known to be Kenneth Bierly.] to counsel with us on matters pertinent to this subject. He was asked to conduct a thorough and objective analysis of those charges made by several service organizations that Judy Holliday had been associated with various front movements.

This study resulted in his analysis to us, a copy of which is attached, together with a statement made under oath by Miss Holliday explaining the manner in which her name was indentified with these causes as well as her categorical denial, under oath, of interest in causes other than humanitarian.

I should like very much for you to direct these documents to Mr. Hoover's attention, and I should appreciate at your earliest convenience discussing with you some aspects of this subject. I tried to reach you via phone without success today and perhaps you will be kind enough to call me as soon as you can.

Cordially,
[Author's name inadvertantly obscured on copy]
