Moving from Various Webhosts

If you're moving your site from another webhost into the WTV-Zone, you will encounter some differences in the way that the other hosts are set up and the way you need to move your files.

This tutorial will cover the "main" webhosts. Some of the lesser known hosts may fall under one of these types, but will have to be dealt with individually. If you aren't sure what you need to do to move files from a particular webhost, write to us using the link below, and we'll work with you to get your files moved over.

If you are a computer user, in most cases you'll be able to move your files without any problems. If the webhost has FTP access, you can download all your files to your computer, and then use the multiple Uploader at the bottom of the file manager to upload them into your WTV-Zone account.

Angelfire

Due to recent changes at Angelfire, the Multi-File beamer no longer works to move files from there. You will either need to move your files individually, or contact the Help Zone with your log in information and we'll move your files for you.

Tripod

Due to the changes Tripod has made recently in order to block remote linking, the only way to move files is either individually, or by contacting the Help Zone with your log in information and we will move them for you.

Geocities

As of April 2, 2002, it is uncertain as to whether or not we will be able to retrieve any files from Geocities. They announced the implementation of a new policy which not only blocks directories from remote linking, but also disallows the use of FTP for anyone who does not "upgrade" to a premium pay account there. They are to have a built-in uploader but it is unknown as to whether or not this uploader will be MSNtv-friendly.

The multi-file beamer will still move individual directories (as long as there isn't an index.html page in any of the directories), the "regular" beamer will move individual pages and files, but it may take some time due to the limitations they put on bandwidth.

Please contact the Help Zone , and we will assist you in any way we can to retrieve your files.

Domania

You can use the Site Mover to move from Domania, but the same criteria apply. You cannot have your directories blocked, and you need to temporarily rename your index.html page until your site has been copied to the WTV-Zone. If you are only moving some of your files from Domania and are using the Multi-File Beamer, you will need to make sure you have the ending slash after the directory name. Click HERE for instructions on using the Site Mover, or HERE for instructions on using the Multi-File Beamer.

Talk City

Moving from Talk City requires the use of FTP. Write to the Help Zone with your account information and Kari or Iceman will assist you in moving your files.

Terrashare

Moving from Terrashare requires the use of FTP. Write to the Help Zone with your account information and Kari or Iceman will assist you in moving your files.

Webtv Pagebuilder

Moving from the Webtv Pagebuilder requires the use of the Multi-File Beamer. There are special instructions for this process. Click HERE for those instructions. A few hints however, are:

If your url looks something like http://community-2.webtv.net/ThisIsMe/MyPages/ you will need to add index.html to the end of the url or the multi-file beamer will not work properly. So the url should look like this:
http://community-2.webtv.net/ThisIsMe/MyPages/index.html

Also, sometimes the url doesn't show up correctly for the background because of the way Webtv codes the PageBuilder. You can get the url easily by viewing the source of the page, copying the url for the background, going directly to it (pasting the url in your go to box) and beam it as a single file.

TheGlobe

TheGlobe requires the use of FTP. Write to the Help Zone with your account information and either Kari or Iceman will assist you in moving your files.

As always, if you have questions regarding this or any procedure, write The Help Zone for assistance.
