The exciting plans, already approved unanimously by the Dade School Board, would allow for the concurrent construction of 3 brand-new schools, including new North Miami High and Middle Schools, as well as a new Cagni Park.
Under the plan spearheaded by Mayor Kevin Burns, the city and Dade School Board would swap lands to make the whole thing happen. The current Cagni Park on NE 135 Street would become the new North Miami High. The current high school physical-education fields would become the new North Miami Middle School. A K-8 School would also be incorporated into the area.
After completion of the new schools, the old ones would be razed. In place of the current North Miami High, the new Cagni Park would be built. The new Cagni would be slightly larger in square-footage than the current one. What is now North Miami Middle would become the physical-education fields for the new North Miami High.
The existing North Miami Community Center, Gribble Pool, and Armory are also part of the plans. Those buildings would be torn down to make room for a parking garage that would be shared by the High School and other community properties. A new community center would be incorporated into the new North Miami Library, which might be built on the floors above the parking garage.
A new Gribble Pool would be constructed on the east side of NE 8th Avenue where a parking lot currently exists. Where the Library is now, the new Olympic Training Site would be constructed.

As you can see, this involves a lot of public property, but is very visionary. When completed, it would make North Miami the envy of South Florida. Our schools, parks, pool, and library would be brand-new, state-of-the art facilities. Families will want to move to our community to take advantage of such offerings. Property values will certainly rise. To pay for it all, North Miami's CRA, Swerdlow Developers, and the Dade School Board will pool money. It's an outstanding prospect!
