Tips on Taping
For information on the laws for taping phone calls, see Can We Tape? by the Reporter's Committee for Freedom of the Press.
The same rules that apply to the news media also apply to the public. Much of this information applies to videotaping, too.
Basically, if you're on public property, anyone is free to videotape you doing whatever. They can sit on the street and videotape you picking flowers on your property. They can't use a zoom lens with a night-scope to look into your house, not legally. Notice I said legally. That's not to say some wouldn't stoop to this. They can't come onto your property, legally, especially if a NO TRESPASSING sign is posted. But then the UPS man might not stop by either.
See the RCFP's website for more information.
