Diane Canfield
Marble Falls, AR
50 years old

When I first met Diane in Arkansas, she was so vibrant, resourceful and creative. She seemed to have a great life spirit and I enjoyed her sense of humor. She had been ill for much longer than I had, so she was very helpful with information and resources about chemical injuries and MCS.

Diane was highly intellectual and had an intellectual curiosity, meaning she wanted to learn everything about everything. She had broad interests. We would discuss everything from how we might make and sell products for those with chemical injuries to cooking and travels. She had an organic vegetable garden that we enjoyed. Not only did we enjoy the fresh food from the garden, but we sat and chatted in front of the little garden. She was adventurous, open-minded, and so free-spirited. She would show understanding and tolerance to just about anyone.

Before she moved to Arkansas she rented a house in NM, but she had to move from there due to contamination, and from there she stayed in campgrounds and lived in her truck for a year or so before finding and buying her house in Arkansas.

In September of 2001, she mentioned to me that a plane had flown over her house, and she noticed that it "dumped" its fuel. She had a bad reaction to the fumes, and from that time on, she said that everything had tasted and smelled like paraffin, and she could barely keep food down. I went to visit her in October and it seemed like she was doing better, but then in November, 2001 I got a call that she had passed away.

I miss her and think of her often.

Lorene Crow
Hemet, CA
80 years old

I met Lorene on the CIIN chat room. She was full of life and contributed much to our conversations. She loved to laugh and to make others laugh, in spite of her own suffering.

One night, she mentioned to us that she had just been diagnosed with cancer. For a few months, it was a struggle - dealing with the doctors, hospice and her chemical sensitivities. It was not long before she passed away on Tuesday, May 6, 2003 and her battle with MCS and then cancer was over.

I miss our wonderful chats. ~ Sue Nell
