Besides losing our health, many victims of MCS have lost their jobs, their homes, their families, and their friends. Too many end up homeless and living out of their vehicles in some remote area. Some victims have been tragically murdered while other victims have tragically taken their own life. Many like our beloved Cindy Duehring have lost their life to complications from the illness after severe pesticide poisoning.

James McConaghie is an honors research student in environmental studies at Oberlin. He suffers from "multiple chemical sensitivity" disorderóJames gets sick if exposed to certain synthetic compounds found typically in new carpets, paints, and adhesives. For health reasons, his classes in several buildings must be videotaped; he watches them elsewhere to avoid breaking out in hives. Click here to read full story.

The Tomato Effect - Film "In making this documentary, I've come to realize that recognition of this diagnosis would have greater consequences to the chemical industry than acknowledging that smoking causes cancer did to the tobacco industry."

No Safe Haven - People With Multiple Chemical Sensitivity Are Becoming the New Homeless Though it's only recently begun to make headlines, multiple chemical sensitivity (MCS) is not new: People have been reporting the symptoms of it on an increasing arc for the last 50 years, as our society has become more and more synthetic. Between 1940 and 1980, the production of synthetic organic chemicals increased from less than 10 billion pounds per year to more than 350 billion. In some ways, MCS is an allergy to modern life--a physical reaction to the common chemicals, ranging from detergents, pesticides, solvents and perfumes to foods and pharmaceuticals, that permeate our everyday existence. Less than one percent of the 1,000 new chemicals added each year have been tested for toxicity.

Multiple Chemical Sensitivity - The Grisanti Report We have reached the age of modern living through chemistry or, as the TV ads said in the late 1940's and early 1950's (with their lab coats and test tubes), "Better living through Chemistry." What has happened in modern industrial society, however, is the misuse, overuse, and inappropriate disposal of chemicals.

Savvy Patients.com - Multiple Chemical Sensitivity The cornerstone of treatment for chemical sensitivity is avoidance. This will decrease total body burden, allowing recovery of the detoxification systems.

Skewed: Psychiatric hegemony and the manufacture of mental illness in Multiple Chemical Sensitivity, Gulf War Syndrome, Myalgic Encephalomyelitis and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome A detailed investigation into the psychiatric diagnosis of a range of illnesses which some have suggested are actually caused by chemicals. The book traces the chemical companies' arguments against their products causing illnesses, and it tracks the growth of the theory promoted by them that individuals who report symptoms of chemically-induced ill health have personality disorders.
