Dear Mr. Davis:

On this day when we are remembering the events of last year, I remember also the events beginning more than ten years ago. We don't have to look at 9/11 to find terrorism and evil-doers. Both can be found in our local Slidell community.

The essay A Prayer For 9/11 brought to mind what I felt but couldn't find the words to express. These words, in particular, hold much meaning: "Perhaps of all sins, the worst is indifference to the suffering of others".

The article today in the Times Picayune entitled State gives parish money to swat mosquitoes explains last night's aerial spraying by St. Tammany Parish Mosquito Abatement District 2 that flew its plane directly over my property without giving advance notification as agreed upon.

In the article you said "that the money may be used for chemicals, spraying, overtime pay or equipment rental to fight mosquitoes". It seems that the chemicals have been misused and the money misspent by aerial spraying directly over or near my home located in the Oak Harbor PUD of 1988. This is the only service the Parish has been willing to provide, which as a disabled victim of pesticide poisoning, I don't require.

Again, I ask you the same question that I asked on 9/6/02 after discovering on my overgrown dead-end road the abandoned vehicle belonging to a murdered Slidell businessman. When do you think it's time to clean up this mess?

Sincerely,

Nancy Hirschfeld
