This page will contain sigs for the Spring and Summer Wiccan Sabbats: Ostara, Beltane, Summer Solstice, and Lammas (also known as Lughnassadh).

Ostara, or Eostre (later changed to Easter), is the name given to the Spring Equinox by the ancient Romans. However, the celebration of the return of Spring is as old as the Ages. It is a time to celebrate the fertility of the land, the rebirth of the Sun, and the vitality of Mother Earth. It falls on March 20th or 21st. Traditional fertility symbols of this season include eggs and rabbits (known for their preponderance to reproduce ;-)

Beltane (or Beltaine, from the Gaelic, Bealtaine) is also known as May Day and has always been celebrated on the 1st of May. Other names for May Day include: Walpurgisnacht (in Germany), and Roodmas (the medieval Church's name). This last came from Church Fathers who were hoping to shift the common people's allegiance from the Maypole (the pagan lingam~symbol of life) to the Holy Rood (the Cross~Roman instrument of death).

In the words of Witchcraft writers Janet and Stewart Farrar, the Beltane celebration was principally a time of "...unashamed human sexuality and fertility." Traditional symbology of the day includes the obvious phallic symbolism of the Maypole and riding the hobby horse. (With that in mind, if anyone has a graphic of skyclad women dancing around a Maypole PLEASE send it to me :-) For a complete article on Beltane, click HERE

Summer Solstice, or Litha, is the Midsummer Celebration. It is the time when, once again, day and night are equal in length. As in Samhain, it is a time when the veil between the worlds is thinnest; thence, it is a time when one may communicate with the dead . . . or even travel to the other side. Symbols of this Sabbat include
fruits and summer flowers.

Lammas or Lughnassadh is the celebration of the First Harvest or "Wheat Harvest". Lughnassadh is Welsh for Lugh's Bread. It is a time to celebrate the first of Mother Earth's bounty. Click HERE for an article about the Festival of Bread. And click here: The Cottage for full information, including a ritual, on this Sabbat. If you'd like to participate in an online Lughnassadh Ritual, click: Online RITUAL.

Note: The "Beltane Maiden" sig, "Beltaine Lovers", "Beltane Cuties", "Fruits of Litha", "Solstice Goddess", "Happy Lammas!", "Celebrate Lughnassadh!" and all the Midsummer sigs have graduated color backgrounds.

One of my newer sigs, "Ostara Dance", has a large wav of a Wiccan chant. Please wait for it to load. Unfortuately, you will no longer be able to change the music on my sigs...not since the changes at WebTV have forced me to embed the code (making it inaccessible to you, the sig user). If you'd like to change the music on any sig, feel free to email me. Enjoy!

Bright Blessings!
