what's everybody's favorite music? our own damn music! we all have a unique taste in tunes. when you hear your baby cry, you have an emotional response. when a stranger hears your baby cry, it will painfully puncture through their very soul. think of your page as your baby, and please make it shut up! NO RAMS EVER! if you see yourself as a signature or page builder, but use 'rams' (real audio music), all your points will automatically be revoked. rams will wreak havoc on lesser models of webtv, this is why they a banned in many newsgroups. to use them is inconsiderate at best. there is a large group of users who pray that msntv will make rams totally imcompatible. besides, have you really listened to them? the horrible quality, complete with skips and screeches, will irritate anyone who is not completely tone-deaf. the surgence of "mod", "mp3" and thier related files are slowly making "midis" obsolete. sure, there still are some enchanting midis. some piano, precussion and bass lines sound great, but when a song breaks into that infamous piercing chorus, all the cool graphics on your page will be overshadowed by these offending notes. yes, some sensitive folks will leave your page in a hurry if you host agressive sounds. remember, hideous sounds are just as offensive as ugly sights. i will feel as much disgust if you scream in my ear as if you got nekkid in front of me. hardly any seasoned PC users have their volume turned on while online, and many msntvs user do the same. so often there is no need to host sound files on your page. a 120kb sound file will add to your loading time to your page or sig considerably, but if your guest can't hear it, why bother? one of the biggest mistakes is to use a sound file so large, your guest has seen your whole page and clicks onward before your crappy song has even started playing! i love you and all that, but: "duh!" |
