Army Capt. Michael J. Medders, 25, of Ohio

Medders died September 24, 2008 in Jisr Naft, Iraq, of wounds suffered when a suicide bomber detonated a vest during operations.

He was assigned to the 2nd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Hood, Texas.

Marine Cpl. Jesus Martin Antonio Medellin, 21, Fort Worth, Texas

Medellin died April 7, 2003 in Central Iraq when an enemy artillery round struck the Amphibious Assault Vehicle in which he was riding.

He was assigned to 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, California.

Marine Lance Cpl. Brian A. Medina, 20, of Woodbridge, Virginia

Medina died November 12, 2004 as a result of enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.

He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Hawaii.

Army Spc. Irving Medina, 22, of Middletown, New York

Medina died November 14, 2003 in Baghdad, Iraq , when his convoy was hit by an improvised explosive device.

He was assigned to 4th Battalion, 1st Field Artillery Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, Fort Riley, Kansas.

Marine Lance Cpl. Matthew S. Medlicott, 21, of Houston, Texas

Medlicott died August 25, 2007 from wounds suffered while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar province, Iraq.

He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California.

Army Sgt. Jean Paul Medlin, 27, of Pelham, Alabama

Medlin died May 19, 2007 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle.

He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

Army Sgt. William B. Meeuwsen, 24, of Kingwood, Texas

Meeuwsen died in Baghdad, Iraq on November 23, 2005 when his unit came under direct fire during combat operations.

He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

Army Sgt. Benjamin E. Mejia, 25, of Salem, Massachusetts

Mejia died in Marez, Iraq, on May 31, 2006 of non-combat related causes.

He was assigned to the 4th Squadron, 14th Cavalry Regiment, 172nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, Fort Wainwright, Alaska.

Army Pvt. Bobby Mejia II, Saginaw, Michigan

Mejia died December 23, 2006 in Salman Pak, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle during combat operations.

He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 125th Infantry, Big Rapids, Michigan.

Army Staff Sgt. David A. Mejias, 26, of San Juan, Puerto Rico

Mejias died April 1, 2007 in Baghdad, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle during combat operations.

He was assigned to the 2nd Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, New York.

Army Spc. Israel Candelaria Mejias, 28, of San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico

Mejias died April 5, 2009 near Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds sustained when a mine detonated near him during combat operations.

He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 2nd Infantry Regiment in Task Force 3rd Battalion, 66th Armor Regiment, 172nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Grafenwoehr, Germany.

Army Spc. Mark W. Melcher, 34, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Melcher died in Al Taqaddum, Iraq on April 15, 2006 when his M1A1 Abrams tank came under enemy small-arms fire during combat operations.

He was assigned to the National Guard's 1st Battalion, 103rd Armor, Friedens, Pennsylvania.

Army Sgt. John William Mele, 25, of Bunnell, Florida

Mele died September 14, 2007 in Arab Jabour, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his unit during combat operations.

He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia.

Marine Lance Cpl. Anthony C. Melia, 20, of Thousand Oaks, California

Melia died January 27, 2007 while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar province, Iraq.

Army Cpl. Casey L. Mellen, 21, of Huachuca City, Arizona

Mellen died on September 25, 2006 in Balad, Iraq, of injuries suffered when his mounted patrol came in contact with enemy forces using small arms fire during combat operations in Mosul, Iraq.

He was assigned to the 5th Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), Fort Lewis, Washington.

Melo died December 21, 2004 in Mosul, Iraq, when his dining facility was attacked.

Army Spc. Jacob E. Melson, 22, of Wasilla, Alaska

Melson died near Tal Afar, Iraq, on January 7, 2006 when his UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter crashed.

He was assigned to the Army National Guard's 1st Battalion, 207th Aviation Regiment, Anchorage, Alaska.

Melton died April 25, 2004 in Iraq, when his military vehicle was hit with an improvised explosive device and small arms fire.

He was assigned to the Arkansas Army National Guard, Company B, 3rd Battalion, 153rd Infantry Regiment, 39th Brigade Combat Team, Fordyce, Arkansas.

Marine Cpl. Jaygee Meluat, 24, of Tamuning, Guam

Meluat died September 13, 2004 due to enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.

He was assigned to 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California.

Army Staff Sgt. Tracy L. Melvin, 31, of Seattle, Washington

Melvin died of injuries sustained on August 6, 2006 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his HMMWV during combat operations in Ar Ramadi, Iraq.

He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment, 1st Armored Division, Baumholder, Germany.

Army Pfc. Kristian Menchaca, 23, of Houston, Texas

Menchaca died in the vicinity of Baghdad, Iraq, from injuries sustained on or about June 16, 2006. He was previously listed as Duty Status – Whereabouts Unknown. His unit came under enemy small-arms fire while manning a checkpoint during combat operations, and he was taken by enemy forces.

He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

Army 1st Sgt. Bobby Mendez, 38, of Brooklyn, New York

Mendez died of injuries sustained in Baghdad, Iraq, on April 27, 2006 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his HMMWV during combat operations.

He was assigned to the 2nd Special Troops Battalion, 2nd Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Fernando A. Mendezaceves, 27, of Ponce, Puerto Rico

Mendezaceves died April 6, 2004 in Iraq while conducting combat operations in the Al Anbar Province.

He was assigned to the Naval Medical Center San Diego, First Marine Division Detachment, San Diego.

Marine Lance Cpl. David A. Mendez Ruiz, 20, of Cleveland, Ohio

Mendez Ruiz died November 12, 2005 from an improvised explosive device while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in Al Amiriyah, Iraq.

He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Twentynine Palms, California. During Operation Iraqi Freedom, his unit was attached to 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward).

Army Pfc. Antonio Mendez-Sanchez, 22, of Rincon, Puerto Rico

Mendez-Sanchez died in Kirkut, Iraq, on November 11, 2005 when his convoy vehicle was involved in a collision.

He was assigned to the 40th Transportation Company, 44th Corps Support Battalion, 593rd Corps Support Group, Fort Lewis, Washington.

Marine Cpl. Antonio Mendoza, 21, of Santa Ana, California

Mendoza died June 3, 2005 at Brook Army Medical Center, San Antonio, from wounds received as a result of an explosion while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in Ar Ramadi, Iraq, on February 22, 2005.

He was assigned to 5th Battalion, 11th Regiment, 1st Division, I Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California.

Army Sgt. Giann C. Joya Mendoza, 27, of North Hollywood, California

Mendoza died June 28, 2007 of wounds sustained when his unit was attacked in Baghdad by insurgents using improvised explosive devices.

He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 2d Brigade Combat Team, 2d Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colorado.

Marine Maj. Ramon J. Mendoza, Jr., 37, of Columbus, Ohio

Mendoza died November 14, 2005 from an improvised explosive device while conducting combat operations against enemy forces during Operation Steel Curtain in New Ubaydi, Iraq.

He was assigned to Battalion Landing Team 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California. During Operation Iraqi Freedom, his unit was attached to 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward).

Army Spc. Jonathan D. Menke, 22, of Madison, Indiana

Menke died August 4, 2008 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when debris from an improvised explosive device detonation on an overpass fell onto his vehicle.

He was assigned to the 38th Military Police Company, 38th Infantry Division, Indiana Army National Guard, Danville, Indiana.

Army Sgt. Steven P. Mennemeyer, 26, of Granite City, Illinois

Mennemeyer was declared Duty Status Whereabouts Unknown on August 8, 2006 when his UH-60 Blackhawk crashed into a lake in the vicinity of Korean Village in Rubtbah, Iraq. His remains were recovered on August 9, 2006.

He was assigned to the 82nd Medical Company (Air Ambulance), Fort Riley, Kansas.

Marine Gunnery Sgt. Joseph Menusa, 33, of Tracy, California

Menusa was killed in action on March 27, 2003.

He was assigned to 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, California.

Army Staff Sgt. Eddie E. Menyweather, 35, of Los Angeles, California

Menyweather died November 23, 2003, in Baqubah, Iraq, from injuries after an improvised explosive device hit his vehicle.

He was assigned to Company C, 588th Engineer Battalion, 4th Infantry Division (Mech), based in Fort Hood, Texas.

Army Staff Sgt. Angel D. Mercado-Velazquez, 24, of Sabana Grande, Puerto Rico

Mercado-Velazquez died in Yusifiyah, Iraq, on September 1, 2006 of injuries suffered from mortar fire during dismounted combat operations.

He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Army Spc. Gil Mercado, 25, of Paterson, New Jersey

Mercado died April 13, 2003 from a non-combat weapon discharge in Iraq.

Mercado was killed January 7, 2006 when his vehicle was attacked with an improvised explosive device while conducting combat operations near Al Karmah, Iraq.

Mercer died June 30, 2005 in Baghdad, Iraq, when his M2A2 Bradley Fighting Vehicle rolled over while conducting combat operations.

Merchant died in Ar Ramadi, Iraq, on March 1, 2006 when his HMMWV came under attack by enemy forces using a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device and rocket-propelled grenade.

He was assigned to the Army National Guard's 3rd Battalion, 172nd Infantry Regiment, Jericho, Vermont.

Messer died in Ashraf, Iraq, on February 2, 2006 when his HMMWV accidentally rolled over during convoy operations.

He was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 32nd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

Army Pfc. Nicolas E. Messmer, 20, of Franklin, Ohio

Messmer died May 8, 2005 in Khalidiyah, Iraq, while conducting combat operations and an improvised explosive device detonated near his HMMWV.

He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Camp Greaves, Korea.

Army Sgt. Scott J. Metcalf, 36, of Framingham, Massachusetts

Metcalf died October 29, 2008 in Balad, Iraq, of injuries sustained from a non-combat related incident.

He was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 32nd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

Methvin died July 26, 2003 in Baghdad, Iraq, as a result of a grenade being thrown from a window of an Iraqi civilian hospital that he was guarding.

He was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 67th Armor Regiment, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

Army Sgt. Maj. Michael C. Mettille, 44, of West St. Paul, Minnesota

Mettille died February 1, 2007 at Camp Adder, Iraq, from a non-combat related injury.

He was assigned to the 134th Brigade Support Battalion, Brooklyn Park, Minnesota.

Army Pfc. Brandon Abbot Meyer, 20, of Orange, California

Meyer died from wounds suffered when his unit encountered an improvised explosive device during convoy operations January 28, 2008 in Mosul, Iraq.

He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colorado.

Army Pfc. Harrison J. Meyer, 20, of Worthington, Ohio

Meyer died November 26, 2004 in Ar Ramadi, Iraq, when his unit was attacked by enemy forces using small arms fire.

Meza died October 6, 2007 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his unit.

He was assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment, Vilseck, Germany.

Army Spc. Joseph P. Micks, 22, of Rapid River, Michigan

Micks died in Ar Ramadi, Iraq on July 8, 2006 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his Mine Protected Vehicle (RG-31) during combat operations.

He was assigned to the 54th Engineer Battalion, 130th Engineer Brigade, Warner Barracks, Bamberg, Germany.

Army Sgt. Eliu A. Miersandoval, 27, of San Clemente, California

Miersandoval died Januray 31, 2004 in Kirkuk, Iraq when his vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device during convoy operations.

He was assigned to Company A, 4th Forward Support Battalion, 4th Infantry Division (Mech), Fort Hood, Texas.

Army Spc. Michael G. Mihalakis, 18, of San Jose, California

Mihalakis died December 26, 2003 in Baghdad, Iraq, as a result of injuries sustained in a non-combat vehicle accident at the Baghdad International Airport.

He was assigned to the 270th Military Police Company, 49th Military Police Battalion, 100th Troop Command, California Combat Support Command, Army National Guard, based in Fairfield, California.

Marine Pfc. Matthew G. Milczark, 18, of Kettle River, Minnesota

Milczark died March 8, 2004 due to a non-combat related incident at Camp Victory, Kuwait.

He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, California.

Marine Cpl. Jason David Mileo, 20 of Centreville, Maryland

Mileo was shot and killed April 14, 2003 after being mistaken for an enemy soldier. Emergency personnel were immediately dispatched to the scene, but Mileo died on site in the vicinity of Baghdad.

He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division based in Twentynine Palms, California.

Marine Sgt. Sean H. Miles, 28, of Midlothian, Virginia

Miles was killed in action January 24, 2006 from small arms fire while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in Al Karmah, Iraq.

He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Mike and two teammates had taken position on the outcropping of a rooftop when an insurgent grenade bounced off Mike's chest and landed on the roof. Mike had a clear chance to escape, but he realized that the other two SEALs did not. In that terrible moment, he had two options to save himself, or to save his friends. For Mike, this was no choice at all. He threw himself onto the grenade, and absorbed the blast with his body. For this act Mike was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.
He was a SEAL assigned to a West-Coast based command.
During Mike's funeral in San Diego, as his coffin was being moved from the hearse to the grave site at Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery, the SEALs filed past the casket, they removed their golden tridents from their uniforms, pressed them onto the walls of the coffin. The procession went on nearly half an hour. And when it was all over, the simple wooden coffin had become a gold-plated memorial to a hero who will never be forgotten.

Army Spc. Mitchel T. Mutz, 23, of Falls City, Texas

Mutz died November 15, 2006 in Baquba, Iraq, of injuries suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle during combat operations.

He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

Marine Pfc. Veashna Muy, 20, of Los Angeles, California

Muy died June 23, 2005 while traveling in a convoy that was attacked by a suicide, vehicle-borne, improvised explosive device in Fallujah, Iraq.

He was assigned to 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Army Spc. Edward L. Myers, 21, of St. Joseph, Missouri

Myers died July 27, 2005 in Samarra, Iraq, while his unit was conducting patrol operations and an improvised explosive device detonated near his HMMWV.

He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia.

Army Pfc. Zachary T. Myers, 21, of Delaware, Ohio

Myers died of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his vehicle with an explosive device September 8, 2009 in Baji, Iraq.

He was assigned to the 545th Military Police Company, Arctic Military Police Battalion, U.S. Army, Alaska, Fort Richardson, Alaska.
