Bits O' History

The history of the Irish pub is steeped in culture and lore. An Irish pub was a rough-hewn place of stone walls and natural wood furniture with large fireplaces and hanging oil lamps over wood or cobblestone floors. The Irish pub was a warm, welcoming place where people socialized, told stories, and sang. The atmosphere and charm of a traditional Irish pub remains popular today, so much so that they have been replicated all over the world.

Originally brewed in Dublin, the famous dark Irish beer, Guinness, is a favorite of many worldwide. Celebrating with green beer is an American tradition. The Irish would not dream of fouling good beer with green dye, and since lots of people drink Guinness, which is black, it would be pretty hard to do anyway.

May you always have work
for your hands to do.
May your pockets hold always
a coin or two.

Your heart be light

Bits O' History

Wearin' of the green is considered an act of paying tribute to Ireland. It is said that it also brings good luck, especially when worn on St. Patrick's Day. Many long years ago, playful children gave birth to the tradition of pinching those forgetting to wear green on St. Patrick's Day and the tradition is still practiced today.
