Tips ... Like Many of Them
- Put this search@inquiremail.com email address in your address book and name it SAAAA. Then after clicking on To: tap the letter S and you're there. Then type what you're searching for in the subject line and send. BTW sig on or off makes no difference. Unfortunatrly this does not work as of 6-15-2003 and I'm not sure why so I'll leave until I find out why.
- Here's a way to bounce an email or post without using your keyboard or a one-handed method. After you have put either xxx@umich.edu or both xxx@bnl.gov in your address book. Name one AAA and the other AAAA which should put it at the very top. When you're ready to forward the email or post just use the remote to click on everything and send with sig on or off although sig off is better especially if you have HTML in your signature box. The above two addresses are no longer valid but daemon@llnl.gov works. This is frown on by some WTV users as you're using their bandwidth so the choice is yours whether to use or not. The below method is still by far the best way.
- To bounce an email or a NG post read this.
- To find out how many emails you have received remove your signature after you have done the bounce procedure (see above) and you notice text below the subject line and there you'll find message_forward_ID and that's the number you are seeking. BTW you must have some HTML codes in your signature box.
- When you're in a window box which ask as an example what state you're from which say is Virgina well if you tap the letter V bingo you're there. BTW same thing using your address book after clicking on To:

Regarding NG post count, it takes an average of about 50 posts per posts per day to maintain a maximum posts-on-board count of 1500. Posts that are over 30 days old expire and disappear each day. That number varies depending on how many posts were made 30 days ago. The sweeping out program is not perfect as there are usually a few old hangers on that may take 31 - 33 days to get knocked off. Most old posts get dumped in the wee hours but there are also a couple of periods during the day when smaller numbers of old posts get erased and a non public or non private news group will be discontinued without any postings for 14 days automatically.
- If you want to know the total number of posts try tapping your Info key after opening a post and this total includes any posts that might have been deleted by the news groups moderator.

- Want to go to alta vista search? Well after tapping the Go To key just type av and tap Return and you're there.
- When typing a URL in email or a post for a clickable link, non html type, just type the www dot etc., etc. In other words forget the http:// part and type for example and for WTV users only:
www.thefew.com
www.gifworks.com
www.beseen.com
www.myimager.com
but computers users need the http:// beginning for the link to be clickable.
- After tapping the Go To key instead of typing www.gifworks.com just type gifworks and tap the Return key. The www. and .com is automatically inserted. This works for all www addresses as long as it ends .com.

- To send an email within the same domain such as webtv.net you only need to type the name such RFDowneyJr after To: then send when ready. The name is not case sensitive. The same works for computers as long as you send a message within the same domain and depending upon the domain the computers is using.

- To attach a post or an email to a post requires a little trick. First bounce the email or post using the <<>html><<>xmp> method. When the code arrives, CC&P all of it and paste it in your sig box. Type <<>html> at the very beginning of the code you pasted in the box. Now just go ahead and post and the email or post will be attached just as it looks in the original form.
- Here's a site from the WebTV Excellence SiteRing called Internet Tips and Tricks.
- Here are a few factors that affect and have an effect on loading time regardless of who the host is and whether it is a web page or a signature.
- Depends on your modem speed
- How clear your cache is
- How many others are accessing the same site or page
- Whether the page uses relative or absolute URL's
- Whether or not you used animated images
- Time of day or night
- What size is the entire page?
- Did they use width, height and border attributes for their images
- Did they use proper HTML syntax
- Did they use tables
- If you want to know your connection rate click here and here. You can also add &rate; to your spelling list and you'll see something like this at the very beginning 46666 bps (uncompressed)
For your modem type add &modem; and you'll see something like this AltoCom SoftModem Version 3.1.31

- Have you noticed that spam has increased even if you have deleted all of your cookies? The reason seems to be that search engines are using bots that seek out the mailto: tag on web pages, top 100 sites and web rings to name but a few sites naturally seeking emails addresses. So instead of using a hypertext command like
<<>a href="mailto:email_addy_here">click here<<>/a> just use your email address instead w/o the using the above link.
- Speaking of cookies if you'd like to view and delete your cookies click here.

- I have a new Sony Plus LBB and after I tap PIP or Cmd + W instead of using Cmd + M to move the PIP from one side to the other the "enter" button on the hand held remote moves the PIP from one side to the other.
- A cache is basically a buffer which is a device that holds electronic information that remembers where you have been for ease of loading as in "been there done that". To properly clear your simply turn the box off for about 30 seconds. If you only switch users that will only clear your "recents" but not your entire cache. If all users are used then open a free email account at excite dot com, yahoo, hotmail and others and forward and save messages there. A so-called "clear your cache" site will only clear your recents.

Put your cursor over the questionable e-mail, hold down Ctrl & Cmd keys together, and look for the number in the status window. It is the id= x and remember the numbers, (the x's), and
press your 'Go To' key, erase the http://, and type or paste this into it:

If you use the same image more than once on a web page it's a good idea to fool the browser and add a question mark and a number like ?1 and then ?2 then ?3 to the end of the URL for example:
images/us.flag.gif
images/us.flag.gif?1
images/us.flag.gif?2
images/us.flag.gif?3
