This site is dedicated to the memory of ATN1 (E-6) Kenneth Edward Van Hoy, USN, who was senselessly and needlessly killed on May 17, 1969 in Kien Giang, South Vietnam at the age of 27 while trying to defuse an enemy booby trap. He was born on January 17, 1942 in Goldsboro, NC. He proudly served our country for eight years before he was killed. If ever a man was destined to become and be a US Navy SEAL this man stood head and shoulders above the rest. His memory is forever enshrined on the Vietnam War Memorial at Panel 24W Line 35. Rest in peace tender soul and friend and equally to my father, Richard F. Downey, Sr., Lieutenant Colonel, USAF, retired, who served with the 449th Bomb Group (H), Fifteenth Air Force, 47th Wing, World War II, as a bombardier on a B-24 during World War II and later flew B-36's and eventually the B-52 and retired in 1965. For his heroics during the war he was awarded the DFC, Distinguished Flying Cross. The 449th Bomb Group web site can be viewed here. The Norfield Publishing Company which sponsors the web site has published several other books depicting these brave men of that era in other fine books and is worth a visit here. My father went to heaven to be with my mother on July 1, 2004. He will be greatly missed by many especially me. Tell my mother I miss her and that I love her as I do you, Dad, very much.
I launched this site on the Marine Corps Birthday, November 10, 1999. I have saved many different military sites, military gifs and military graphics. I had been asked on numerous occasions if I had this or that. Well here's the whole ball of wax. If you'd like to have your site listed here just send me an email and I'd be happy to add your site. This site and all of its links were launched, designed, created and maintained by yours truly, is best viewed, 1024x768, by either the IE, Firefox [no bgsound using FF so use another browser] or Opera browsers as Netscape leaves alot be desired IMO. The use of these browsers and others has been tested time and time again by me as I use a laptop with broadband. To really have a great view of this site tap F 11, full page, and go from one page to another and when you want your navigation bar to display again simply tap F 11 again.
