I started going to Oban (Little Bay) when I was 3 years
old, and every time I go back home, where do I go? ... you've guessed it, Oban!
It's the most lively of the West Highland mainland resorts, with its russet-stone, white painted houses, it has a great yachting port - but only for the experienced!
Your first view of Oban is one you are unlikely to forget! From the north,
you glimpse this bustling port from the top of the 'Bealach-an-Righ' as you sweep down the hill towards the bay, the view opens up before you.
Oban is breathtaking and her beauty overwhelms me! I truly believe it's a land of enchantment.
Want to hear more? ... Okay, you've twisted my arm *grin*. It has a Post Office, shops, movie house, banks, a train station and a car ferry to the islands. Here, instead of me telling you, have a look for yourself. Don't worry, I'll bring you back to this page.
Oban is located about 95 miles north of Glasgow and you can easily get
there by car, but I think the best way for you is The West Highland
Line via ScotRail. It leaves 2-3 times daily from Queen Street Train Station in Glasgow. Your journey will take about 3 hours which is longer than if you traveled by car, but oooohh that scenery, plus you will be relaxed and care free! They have great ticket offers so make sure you check out their prices for your Travelpass.
St. Conan's Kirk!
- Whatever you do, don't forget to stop here! It's about 20 miles from Oban In Lochawe Village. In the base of the Statue of St. Conan are the bones of King Robert l (The Bruce) 1306 - 1329, a spectacular view of Loch Ave from The Sundial, with the inscription, 'To the glory of God a house beautiful'. Sooo, if you're planning a wedding, then this is the place! I have a few slides, (they will return you to this page) so
take a peek for yourself!
Enjoy!
