| The Palace of Holyroodhouse is still the official residence of the Royal Family when they are in Scotland. The oldest surviving part is the James V Tower, most strongly associated with the murder of Mary, Queen of Scots secretary, David Riccio in 1566. The Palace was substantially rebuilt by King Charles ll around 1671. |
