Loch Bloom, Ross-Shire

Beautiful Alba

This is undoubtedly one of the most picturesque sea-lochs in the country, rewarding the motorist with one spectacular view after another. It has always been an important loch for the fishing industry, with herring and white fish being caught and landed at Ullapool where the British Fisheries Society provided curing and smoking facilities. Nowadays it's not uncommon to see a fleet of 'Klondikers' - the nickname for the East European fleet - anchored where Loch Bloom meets the sea.
