I found making this to be rather fast and easy using Polylines and Rectangles. If just using solid "colors" you don't have to do what I did in making each part and then doing the matte and filling with a background. It would just eliminate a few extra steps. I will list the steps I used in making mine with backgrounds filled in.

Step 1. Use a blank of 280x280 in a pastel color or any color you want the background to be. I used honeydew.

Step 2. Go to Draw and use Rectangle: 0,0 280,280 Stroke Color Gray and Stroke Width 12

Step 3. Draw: Polyline: 10,140 140,10 270,140 140,270 10,140 Stroke Width 12 Stroke Color gray Now Matte it out (if using same color for Polyline and Rectangle it will do both at once) and then go to Composite with a background using Dstover and Misc

Step 4. Draw - Rectangle: 40,40 240,240 use a Fill color same as your background (mine was honeydew) Stroke Color Black and Stroke Width 1

Step 5. Draw and Polyline: 35,140 140,35 245,140 140,245 35,140 Stroke Width 10 gray then same as above matte and then fill with a bg.

Step 6. Draw: Rectangle: 65,65 215,215 Fill: honeydew Stroke width black Width is one

Step 7. Draw: Polyline: 65,140 140,65 215,140 140,215 65,140 Stroke Color gray Stroke Width 8 (same method as before doing matte and fill)

Step 8. Now you can Composite a "gif" using Over.
