Image Magick has the unique colors under Transform also. You can even crop it while using Dave's tool if you know how many pixels you want taken off.
What I've done is make the unique color swatch from my rose image and went to Gifworks and did the cropping of what I wanted to use for my background and then did the color tile.
In the two styles I'm going to show, I cropped one with the lighter shades and the other with the darker colors.
When you are making a unique color background it takes all the colors from that image you are using and the colors will go from dark to light (usually 256 colors)
So let's get started with the steps of putting one together. I'll list the samples below and you can use those or your own image. I made a dark bg and a light one.
Step 2. To Image Magick make a white background. I used 280x280
Composite the colortile using Atop and Misc. Up to FX - Implode -20 Point and Click to where you want to make the center circle so you can matte it out to enter the image. Offset Nos: 45,140
Step 3. Draw - Circle - Offset numbers 140,140 45,140 - Fill Color - White - Stroke Color - Pink (#663366 for the lighter bg) Stroke Width 2. another stroke- 140,140 55,150 -- No Fill color - Stroke color and Stroke width 2
Step 4. Draw - Rectangle - 0,0 280,280 Stroke Color - White - Stroke Width 10 or 12
Using Matte click in the rectangle and the circle frame.(makes it transparent) Now get your original picture and use Composite - Dstover and Misc. (or just a solid color can be painted in.)
Step 5. Now Matte out the center circle and using Dstover only (uncheck Misc) and put in your image.
Output as a Jpg, JPEG - Truecolor and Quality 35
