Lesson One - Oval
This is basically a help page on making different shapes and using graphics to decorate. Go to Image Magick and put in this picture that we will use for this lesson. "For printer's convenience, here's the url:

This picture measures 364x273(CC&P so you have your url to use in Step 2 or just jot it down on paper.WhiteHorse
Now we want to find where we want the oval to be placed on the image. It's pretty well centered so I found the center of the picture was at 182, 136.5 (half of the width and height of the image) so those are the two numbers we are going to use and then take about 10 less for the oval size so I used 170, 120 (126 was a little too much) If you were to do this just make it with a stroke of white until you get your oval where you want it. So now let's get started.
Step 1. With the picture still there click on in the Paint area Reset - Color - white and click on the center of the picture. It is now white to draw your oval. Click on Ellipse 182,136.5 170,120 0,360 Stroke color - your choice ( I like #9c8c59 (gold) Stroke Width 3 or 5. Now Matte out the inside of the oval.
Step 2. Get the url of your image and put it in Composite and use DSTOVER and since it's centered use +0+0 Center.
You now have the horse in the center of your oval. (Note: Previously I used IN and matted out the outside of the oval and then had to redraw the edge again but using Dstover it works without having to redraw edges)
Now go to Transform and Trim (checkmark in Reset Geometry) Output as a Gif and take it to Gifworks to Optimize.
