"Ok folks! We're going to sell 'er."

The auctioneer started his spiel

It was someone's estate for they had passed on

Folks had come hoping for a deal

"Five dollars, five dollars, five to go!

So start the bidding for me

If it isn't worth a fiver

Then somebody start with three."

The floor man held the box up high

So all the crowd could see

Then all of a sudden from the back of the hall

Came a shout, "I'll make it three."

There was something about the man that bid

That made the crowd come alive

The auctioneer didn't even have to cajole

"Cause somebody shouted, "Five!"

The years of experience of auction sales

Had made the auctioneer wise

He knew there was something in that box

That was attractive to some of the guys

So he worked the crowd as best he could

The bids kept coming, so shucks!

He pled, he coaxed and he talked some more

"Til he sold it for twenty-five bucks!

Some folks thought the man had paid too much

But they didn't know the end

It wasn't the stuff in the box you see

It was 'cause it belonged to a friend

He came to the sale on that day

With a heart that was heavy and sad

And to see the things go for less than their worth

Would make any friend feel bad

I have been to a lot of auction sales

Much like the one of this day

When the things of a man's entire life

Are practically given away

Perhaps there's a lesson in what we see

Of that which is left behind

A man's not measured by the things he has

But by deeds he has done which were kind!

So friends let's remember that our day will come

When material things will fade

The good that we do for our fellowman

Reflect the choices we made!

So how will it be on that judgment day

When we stand before the Throne

To give an account of the deeds we've done

We won't make it there on our own!

So give your life to the Lord Jesus Christ

He died to save us from sin

Then when our stuff is being auctioned off

Through heaven's gates we'll enter in!
