OUR MOON [April 8, 2007]

This is one special image of thousands I've made of the moon over the last twenty years. Most often, even when the partial moon looks very bright, the dark side is nearly invisible to the naked eye, and thus an orb appears as a disc. This was taken on one of those rare evenings when the heavens are set up so that the dark portion is plainly, and beautifully, visible---to the human eye---as well as the camera's; its true globosity shining forth. Undoubtedly there exist reams of pictures of the moon far more intense and detailed than this, and yet, this one is mine; an original, from my perspective, captured in my own time, space, and place. It is more document than art piece, but stunning to my eye and senses, nonetheless. The moon is featured prominently in my art, photography, poetry, and music.
