~A Special Christmas Far Away From Home~
It finally got quiet.. Things had been so fierce for a long time.. He sat in front of his tent, looking out across the desert.. At least it had settled down some.. The sky was ablaze with millions of stars.. He thought, this land could be so pretty with its culture, etc, but was so torn in different directions......
Not long ago, there were the helicopter crashes.. He thought of his buddies that were lost and their families back home.. Home..... This year, Christmas will be very different.. Here he is, in the desert, fighting a war so far away from home.... Not there to put up the lights around the outside of the house.. He wouldnt hear his six year old say, "Come on Daddy!!.. It's time to open presents!!"....
One of his buddies came and sat down with him.. He reminded him it was Christmas Eve.. They talked a while about that.. What their families were probably doing.. How their wives would be busy preparing dinner.. And,..... how much they wanted to be home with them.. They missed them so much and hated to see them worry......
Then their conversation went to a little bit different thing.. They admitted to each other, it was so hard.. They felt torn between their convictions and serving their country and their families at home.. If they had it to do over again, they would still do the same thing.. Answer the call.. They just were thinking so much about their families and how much they missed them.. After all, this is a special time of year that is to be shared with family....
After a while, they decided to turn in.. Each one told the other Merry Christmas.. And that things will be better tomorrow..
After a while, the oddest thing happened.. He knew he had been sleeping for sometime,... yet,........ what happened? And then he knew.. His mother had told him, call on your faith in God whenever you need Him.. He will see you through..... God had come to him in a dream.. He told him, Do not worry, my child... Your family is being well cared for.. Just do the job you came to do.. I will watch over things for thee....
The next morning, he woke feeling peaceful and not so stressed.. He could keep going now.. It still wouldn't be easy, but he could manage things better now.. It was truly a special Christmas far from home after all........
