An Oval Help Page
Using Point and Click
A Help Page By Mary
NOTE: This is NOT a Tutorial----this is merely a help page written by me and for me. I have been helped by many good tutorials and many good people who graciously shared info with me when I was stumped. I cannot begin to list the credits but I thank every one of them. If this "Help Page" does indeed help anyone, I'm glad. :-))
NOTE: These instructions are to make the oval. To make the border of this oval, see Framing an Oval
This is the picture that I will be working with.
For printers' convenience, the url is http://www.wtv-zone.com/Kitkat3l/Help_Pages/bears_sled_keep.jpg
The dimensions are 372x247.
To Use the Point and Click Method----
Take the image to Image Magick.
Eyeball the picture where you want the center of your oval to be. And click. On the next page, write down the first two numbers under the picture.
Eyeball the picture and move the arrow to where you want the left side of the oval to be and click. Again, get the first two numbers under the picture.
Eyeball the picture and move the arrow to where you want the top of your oval to be and click. Write down the first two numbers under the picture.
My center numbers are 194 and 123. My left numbers are 22 and 123. My top numbers are 198 and 12.
Subtract 22 from 194 (194-22=172) to get the distance from the center to the side of the oval.
Subtract 12 from 123 (123-12=114) to get the distance from the center to the top side of the oval.
Therefore, my numbers will be +194+123 +172+114 +0+360.
Explanation of the three sets of numbers using Ellipse. See Oval Illustration.
The first set of numbers is the center point of the picture. The second set is the size of the oval.
The third set of numbers is always +0+360 which makes the oval.
Take the picture to Image Magick, click on "draw" and select "Ellipse". The numbers to use are
+194+123 +172+114 +0+360.
Select stroke color of white and width of 2. This is my test line. If the test line isn't what you desire, adjust the second set of numbers. This test line is just a test to see what numbers I will be using when I make the solid color oval.
Go to Image Magick and make a white blank that is the same size as the starting image (372x247).
Click Draw.
Choose Ellipse.
Fill Color - mistyrose
Use the same numbers in the slot.
Click Draw.
Scroll below the picture to the Paint Options.
Choose Floodfill, Matte and leave "none" in the color slot.
Click on the picture and point the arrow at the white part. Click to make the outside part transparent.
Click composite at the top.
Put the url of the pic in the slot. Choose "in" in the drop-down menu.
Click composite.
Here's the result---

Pick your own picture or use the one I've demonstrated on. Use the dimensions of the picture to figure your oval.
