How To Make a Candle
A Help Page by Mary

This is a transcription of my notes for putting a candle together. Any similarity to any other tutorial is entirely coincidental. Nothing was copied. There could be other ways to do this but this worked good for me.

This candle will be made in two parts and then composited together. The base will be composited over the candle.

I made the base from a dingbat, first.
See Make a base

To determine the size candle, I used point and click, getting the numbers from the left side to the right side. You will have two sets of numbers, the first number of each set being the distance from the left side. Subtract the first number from the first number in the second set. I had 256 and 144 and the result is 112. Divide that by 2 to get the width of each side of the candle. Each half will be 56.

Go to Image Magick. Scroll down on the first page.
Under size, put 150x56.
Color will be firebrick4-linen.
Choose "gradient" in the drop-down menu.
Scroll up and click on view.

Click transform at the top.
Choose "rotate left".
Output as a gif and upload. Carry that url in your "find" key or carefully write it down.

Go back to Image Magick with the url of this gradient.
Click transform at the top and choose "flop".

Click decorate.
Put 110x110 in the slot, color is "none" and select "border".
Click decorate.

Click composite at the top.
Put the url of the gradient, that you had saved in your find key, in the slot.
Offset numbers are +54+110 and Northwest. Click composite.

Check to be sure you don't have a gap in the center and that the top is straight across. Here's my two gradients composited together.

Click composite at the top.
Put the url of your base in the slot.
Offset numbers are +38+198 and Northwest.
Click composite.

There was a little white space in the bottom of my base which I filled in with firebrick4.

Click transform and then trim. I chose to take mine to Gifworks and used smart crop.

Output and upload.

Here's my finished candle and base.

Here is the flame that goes with the candle. The url is http://www.wtv-zone.com/Kitkat3l/Help_Pages/flame.gif

Here is the code to assemble your candle and flame--

<html><body bgcolor="black" text="indianred"><center><img src="url of your flame" height="30"><br><br><img src="url of your candle" height="224" width="143"></center></body></html>
