" In Memory Of Hannah " Another Star In the Sky, Pi Chat Lost Hannah Dec.8, 2003, We all Grieve With Mary And Gail, Hannah Is Flying Free at The Bridge with the Others..
Every day we have them is a gift, and those we have lost light the evening sky for us
In Loving Memory of Hannah
Hannah, a beautiful coral-billed pionus, was hatched at Queen's Pride Aviary in Texas and lovingly cared for by Ginny and Bob Queen. She went to live with Mary, Katie and Beth and their large flock when she was 9 months old… She and some of her sisters went to visit their auntie gail on Columbus Day weekend… After a 2-week struggle with a sudden illness, with her entire pi family and many caring others surrounding her with love and well wishes, Hannah bid this world Farewell far sooner than any of us wanted, early on December 8th, 2003. She is so very missed by so many of us. We love you, Hannah, now and always.
Zoom zoom, Hannah. I'm sure Miss Moses was there to greet Hannah as she crossed the bridge. Mary, I'm so sorry for your loss. Gail, I'm so sorry for you, too. You did the very best anyone could have done. What a beautiful sight she was - not too different from my Monet, except for that bright orange beak! At Pi Camp, she took off and flew toward the lake -- into the screen doors, giving us all a scare. Beautiful and bold! We all were so excited to spend time with her. She was a beautiful gift. I keep thinking of that song "Starry Starry Night" about Vincent Van Gogh and the last line "this world was never meant for one as beautiful as you". I am so glad to have had the chance to know Hannah, even though too briefly. Zoom zoom, little one. (((Mary))) (((Beth))) (((Kate))) (((auntie gail))) -- Charlotte
Mary With Hannah
A few of you were actually lucky enough to have met Hannah Nut Bird at camp last Summer, but I can tell you all that she was sweet and gentle and loved her head rubs. Although she hadn't been with us long enough to form a deep bond with any of the other girls, near the end she was starting to share her space with the Mighty Millie Ani. The two green girls with different color "noses" were a glorious sight. Being a coral bill, Hannah was sort of a "test bird" for her species and proved to be as sweet and loving as any other specie of pionus. She was huge - that was the first thing everyone said when the met her, but she was also very sweet and gentle and went to everyone without so much as a fuss at pi camp, quite remarkable for a bird who was intended as a breeder but ended up as a cherished pet. She was also a bird with a sense of humor, who liked to greet me by hanging upside down in her cage, so that that was how I often started my day - turning on the light in the kitchen and saying good morning to my "bat bird".
The picture above was our first look at Hannah on pi chat, truly a pretty baby picture taken by Bob and Ginny.
Mar and Gail...thanks to you both for those wonderful memories and thoughts of Hannah. I'm so glad that I got to meet that little beauty in person. Mar, remember what a little stinker she was when I tried to get a good pic of her on your shoulder? I'm so sorry that grief has followed grief so closely for you (((Gaily))). I know how much you did to try and turn her circumstances around. And (((Mar))), I'm crying with and for you, being so far away from your baby Hannah, and now having been separated by more than miles alone. Give Kate and Bethie Bubs a couple extra hugs tonight, and know that I'm thinking of you all. Love, Linda
Hannah happily riding on her loving and excited auntie Eva at pi camp…
The news of Hannah's passing is very heartbreaking. I did have the honor of meeting Hannah in early November. I remember this beautiful pi running up my arm hopeful for a long dose of love, and a higher view of the world around her. Even though to Hannah I was a complete stranger, she just had this contagious curiosity for people and what they could offer her. She was such a sweetie and so full of life. No matter how short we view it, she lived life to it's fullest - such a happy, loving girl. We grieve together. We grieve as one. None of us are alone, and neither is sweet Hannah. Carolynn
So very sorry for your loss and Gail's too. I'm sure Ms. Moses was waiting for her at the bridge. Huge hugs for everyone, ChrisM
God must have wanted another angel... Judy

My sincerest condolences on the loss of Hannah!!! Mary, no one can imagine how hard this must be for you. And Gail, we know that you tried your hardest for this precious little bird. Fly free little Hannah! Cathy, a grey chat friend
It's very heartbreaking news. I did have the honor of meeting Hannah at Gail's house in early November. While Pious climbed up my pants leg, Hannah ran up my arm. She was such a sweetie and so full of life. No matter how short we view it, she lived life to it's fullest - such a happy, loving girl. I will always have the luxury of remembering her as such, and Mary, when Hannah comes to you in your dreams, you will remember her the same way. Hannah was a very special little girl. Gail - a special thank you for always keeping us up to date with Hannah's situation. I know how tortuous it seemed at times, but we appreciate you always keeping Hannah's aunties (and uncles) in mind. We grieve together. We grieve as one. None of us are alone, and neither is sweet Hannah. Hugs to everyone, Carolynn, Zazu, Kassy, Pious, Millie, Cookie, Dot, Charlie, George, Frances, Bird, Chloe, MacNeil and Noodle Carolyn has put it so eloquently.

Mary, I haven't been around the board much but I am deeply sorry for you loss. Lots of light your way and hugs. Tammy
Just 3 short days before our wonderful Hannah was suddenly so sick, I told you about her enthusiasm for life, saying she runs to the side of her cage or cagetop to get close to me when I enter the room. When I put a fresh bowl into her cage, she runs to it. When I put a piece of paper in or on top, she runs to nibble on it. When I skritch her WC roommates, she runs as close as possible and jiggles to let me know she's next and not waiting patiently. When I pick her up, she runs up my arm to my shoulder, around my head, and down my back if I reach to retrieve her. When I reach to skritch her, often she's so eager that she wrestles with my hand, taking a finger into her beak and just going to town on that hand, with lotsa noises that signal great enthusiasm. Usually her bites are very gentle. What I wouldn't give for another skritch of that amazingly fluffy head of that beautiful big-eyed girl. I'm so very sorry, Mary. Carolynn said it beautifully. She was our baby. Gentle hugs too for Ginny and Bob, with whom Hannah spent the first half of her too short life. Yes, she did live it to its fullest, didn't she? Always so eager. Such pure joy. What a rowdy time she and Moses are surely having together. Dani's (((((((wing hugs))))))) to Hannah. Play hard, little love : ) auntie gail

Pi camp aunties enjoyed laughing at Hannibal, so unlike our Hannah that the picture still makes us smile.

Perhaps they are not the stars,
but rather openings in Heaven
where the love of our lost ones
pours through and shines down upon us
to let us know they are happy.
