This interview aired in July of 2006.
The actor was very amiable and friendly and it was nice to see him as himself.

He agreed with the hosts that he is very fortunate to work opposite Gina Tognoni as Dinah. He said she is "sexy, talented, beautiful and finds the humor in every scene." He had been hesitant about going on the soap, which was to be for three months. He was there to break up Harley and Gus. He said the worst advice people give actors is "don't do a soap, it's gonna ruin your career." He said that's "hogwash. It's the best place to learn how to work, the best place to play every day. You're under the gun, you don't have time, you've got words, you've got lines. It's the best boot camp." Host Ty Treadway said the ones who tell you not to do a soap are always unemployed actors.

Rob said that now attitudes are changing, and he gets congratulated for being on a soap. He used to mutter when telling people until his wife pointed out, after a couple of weeks that he was enjoying it. "I love to act, I'm acting every week..... it's a great place to work!!"

Host Lisa Rinna thinks Rob and Ty look alike. Here is a comparison:

He was in a prison series called "Oz" and the whole studio was the prison. They used hand held equipment. It was "frightening" and he couldn't even watch it. It was like a real prison.

They showed another film clip at that point and Rob said he doesn't like to watch himself. He told about his experience with "As the World Turns." He was an "under 5" as Detective Kevin Williams. He was supposed to safeguard Lily, and it was written as though their was a possibility of a romance. He was nervous, it was his first job, and his "knees were like rubber." They gave him a big gun and a small holster and every time he did a scene "my gun would fall out and rattle across the stage." They cut all his scenes, leaving him with just entrances, one quick line, and exit. He joked about being "demoralized" and staying home in bed for about a year before he got over it.

He was asked to talk about the other show he had, which was his own show. Ever good-humored he joked about that, too, pretending to cry at the thought of it.

He had left "Oz" for a new project of his own. It was science fiction. He did a pilot and got a commitment for 22 episodes. He had creatvie control, production credit and writing control.

He got an apartment in Montreal, left "Oz," and even turned down Steven Spielberg's offer of a lead role in a pilot. Then the deal fell apart through a bankruptcy problem in Canada. He had all this commitment, and actors hired, and the financing was gone. He had only $800 to his name. He got no calls for a whole year.

He credits "Guiding Light" as what "allowed me to fall in love with acting again."

In his Senior year in college, the 6 foot 1 inch Rob set a basketball record for free throws from the 3-point line. He was challenged to a contest against Lisa and Ty.

Lisa wasn't real happy to do this, but she went along with it. To her credit, she did this in a dress and heels, and doesn't play basketball. She made 3 baskets in her 30-second allotment. Ty was up next and got 6. Rob got 7, because they kindly counted his last shot, which might have been over the time limit.
