In May of 2006, Martha Bryne was within weeks of giving birth to her third child, a girl. I was shocked to see her appear looking like she did for this interview. There are a lot of nice maternity clothes in the world. What was she thinking?




The first thing the brainy Lisa Rinna said to her was "you ARE pregnant!!" Martha was then asked about crazy cravings, and replied that she kept eating "flagles" which are flat bagels. The discussion turned to the differences in little boys and little girls, and eventually she said her 7-year old boy is a clothes horse now. She said her boys are both excited about the new sister coming. She also spoke of last time she was pregnant, while playing both Lily and Rose. Rose was not pregnant, and Lily was, so Rose was hiding behind plants. This time, she figured, she would be "upstairs resting" or something for the summer.

They then started talking about ATWT. They mentioned that there is a big story going on, which is Luke coming out of the closet.


She confirmed that a couple of characters were returning, and Damian was one of them. She expected that this "machismo Italian guy" (Damian) would be upset to hear his son is gay. She said "I love Paulo Seganti, who plays Damian, and of course Jon Hensley (Holden) is my dear heart. I love those two guys together."

The conversation now went to the aging of Luke. Ty Treadway used the phrase "in a matter of months" and Martha exclaimed "MONTHS!! He was 8 and 6 months later he was 14, and now he's 20 (or so)"


She praised Van Hansis (Luke) as a "wonderful actor, doing a great job, an incredible job." She pointed out that it is "really challenging" for a "young actor," who "never did a soap before," on his "first big job," to tackle such a "controversial storyline." She then said the "audience is intelligent. They're the best in the world, and they're smart."

She told the story of how she almost gave up acting in 1985, before she became Lily. She said she was jaded at only 15 years old, having been in the business for 5 years already. She auditioned for a movie called "The Boy Who Could Fly" and was not hired. She decided to just go to being a "normal kid," and not going through all that anymore. It turned out that the actress who was hired was Lucy Deakins, who was playing Lily on ATWT!! ATWT then called Martha to play Lily. Very interesting turn of events there.

She told us about St. Jude's Hospital and the annual fund raiser she does, and said her mom had always given part of Martha's earnings to the hospital. Martha is now on a professional advisory board for the hospital, consulting on how to raise money. She said ATWT fans have been crucial to the success of her efforts.

She sang a song from her newest CD (her 3rd) written by her. It is called "Find My Way Back" and was written for Lily and Holden. Photos of them were shown while she sang. It was really nice, and she sounded great.
