HOW TO USE ANGELFIRE

PART TWO:

LESSON 2:

In this class we will learn how to:
1. Use the Preference, Move, Rename, Duplicate File, Delete, and Sort features.
2. Edit a webpage
3. Link your webpages

Part 1:

1. Log In at Angelfire

2. At the top of your webshell you will see the "Preference" button, click on it. This section allows you to make some changes to your menu box and to the banner ad of Angelfire that will appear on your pages. The default settings will already be there. You can keep them or you can make changes. You can either have a scroll box menu or a large menu box so that you can see all your sub-directory and files. You can have an Angelfire pop-up ad on your pages or a banner. I chose the banner because it is smaller and less intrusive. You can check these out later and see which you prefer. You will also find a place where you can change the size of your editing box, width and height. I have mine set at 55 and 20, but again this is something you will need to play around with to see which suits your needs. You can experiment with these "Preference" changes after class.

3. To move a gif to another sub-directory put a check mark by "images" by clicking on on your enter key. Scroll up and click on "open directory", this will take you to the files in your "images" sub-directory.

4. Place a check mark by babyfly1.gif. Scroll up and click on the Move button. This will take you to a page that shows your sub-directory files.

5. Click on "images2", then click on Move. You have now moved babyfly1.gif from the "images" sub-directory to "images2" sub-directory.

6. To rename a gif go to your "images" sub-directory and open the directory. Put a check mark by angelbaby1.gif and click on the Rename button.

7. This will take you to the Rename Page where it will show the existing file name angelbaby1.gif. In the New File Name area type angelbaby2.gif and click on Rename. You have now changed the name of your gif.

8. To duplicate a file, select the file you want to copy like angelbaby2.gif and click on Duplicate File. This will place a copy of the file in your directory. The copy will be named something like copy_of_angelbaby2.gif

9. If you want to delete a file, select "images2" and open directory. Put a checkmark by babyfly1.gif and click on the Delete button.

10. This will take you to a page that says "WARNING" this page gives you an opportunity to change your mind about the deletion if you have made a mistake. It will show you the file or files that you have selected to delete. If these are the ones you want to delete, then click on the delete button. If you have made a mistake, then click on the cancel button.

11. Usually when you are moving and renaming files they will appear at the bottom of the directory you are working in. To keep your sub-directories and main directory in alphabetical order, click on "sort by name" at the top of the menu. This will automatically put them in alphabetical order for the directory that you are in.

12. I have used gifs with all of the above features but these same features will work with your sub-directory names and your webpage names. Sub-directory names are part of the gif img src that you use on your webpage (example img src="/images angelbaby2.gif") so remember that if you change the name of a sub-directory and you have used images from that directory on a webpage, then you will need to go to that webpage and change the img src to reflect the new name change.

PART 2:

Editing a Webpage

We will start the editing process with your Main Page which is the index.html file.

1. Put a check mark by the index.html file and click on the edit button. This will take you to either the Advanced Editor Page where you will select Advanced and click on submit which will then take you to the editing page or straight to the editing page itself. (Once you have selected Advanced editing for a page, each time you click on the edit button it will automatically take you to the Advanced Editor Page thereafter.)

2. If the opening <<>html> does not exit in the editing box then you will need to type it in.

3. Next type <<>head>

4. Then type <<>title>Your title of page goes here<<>/title><<>/head>

5. Type <<>body background="background/butflymute1.gif" text="#8B0000" link="#8B0000" alink="#8B0000" vlink="#8B0000" autostart=fastest>
<<>center>
<<>p>
<<>font size="3">
WELCOME TO MY HOMEPAGE
<<>/font><<>/p>
<<>BR>
<<>BR>
<<>img src="images/angelbaby2.gif">
<<>BR>
<<>BR>
<<>a href="the URL of Page2.html goes here>PAGE2<<>/a> <<>/center>
<<>/html>
Scroll up and click on "Save".

6. You have now put a title to your webpage, background, welcome text, an image and link to Page2.

PART 3:

Homework:

Go to Page2 and put a different title, welcome text, background, an image and a link to Page3. Send it to the list

GOOD LUCK!
