We may all know this already but here goes. With the numerous postings on this board, sometimes it's difficult to find your post or one that you would like to refer back to. When searching for a post just hit the "find" key and type in a word or phrase in the post that you're looking for. If it's on that page, it will take you right to it. (The word will be highlighted). If you get the pop-up that says "couldn't find on page, click to the next page and try again. Saves alot of scrolling.

I dont know how many ppl know about Optimizing. I found out the true importance last night. I had a gif that was 58209 bytes and 223 color. I went to gifworks and opt'ed it and brought it down to 18424 bytes and 18 colors with NO color loss!!! It looks the exact same, and loads 150% faster, theres NO wait time. So if you have gifs/jpgs on your site that seem to slow things down, OP 'em. I Promise it will speed ya up!!!!

I don't think this has been posted before, if so, please forgive me. When you are making a homepage and you save it then realized you forgot something up at the top of the page or wherever, just push find then type in (html), or whatever helps, now you don't have to sit and wait to get all the way back to the top!

Remember Then
Let's say you just made a
great
banner or logo for a new site,
or chose
a great background.
You decide on the text color,
etc...
for the rest of your site and when you
publish
it just doesn't look quite like what you
wanted.
Take the image you chose
for your
background or logo design
to image magick and
click on the idenify.
You will get an
unbelievable number of colors
that went into
making that background, logo, etc.
And the great
part is,
every single one of them coordinates
with your site.
You've got a seperate color you
can use for
text, links, borders on tables,
etc.
I used this to simulate a bif 2 button
in a table on a new site I'm working on
and even
got the exact gradcolor and text color from the
list.

How To Check Your Modem Connection Speed In A News
Group Plus More
Method Number One
After clicking on any post, like this one for
example, click on Respond and delete the name of the
news group at the top, CMD + delete while cursor
flashing on text line, and type in &rate: and that's
a semi-colon at the end, then try to send and you're
modem connection speed will appear on the
pop-up.
Method Number Two
Another way is to click on Post type in and any
letter in the subject area, do the send thing. and
again your modem connection speed will appear on the
pop-up.
Method Number Three
Follow these steps and click on the following in
this order: Mail, Settings, Word List, then CMD +
Scroll Down, Add Word and type , then click on Add
and remember that's semi-colon. Then every time you
go to your Word List (aka Spell Checker) at the top
will be along with your modem conection
speed.
Method Number Four
If you go to this site called WebTV Browser Check and
tap your Info key you'll see your modem connection
speed. You can also switch users, view your cookie
list and see your recents past the 12 (twelve) that
WebTV allows.
Method Number Five
Here is perhaps the easiest way to check your
connection speed and all you have to do is simply
click here. This method has the potential of
being a keeper.
Sincerely
The Blue Fox
Congratulations! To ~Bekki~ on being the FIRST winner of this, sure to become prestigious, award. Great tip!
"When you go to a page and you want to save it in your folders and it shows "UNTITLED" just push CMD R and it will give you name of page you are saving..This way you don't have "UNTITLED'S" and always know what you are saving."
Now I don't know about the rest of you, but I did have some "Untitled"s in my favorites. That is, before
I read Bekki's tip. I clicked on the untitled fav.
When I got to the site, if there was no title at the
bottom of my screen, I hit cmd + R, and a title
appears. Next I hit save.
Then I'd go back and discard the "Untitled". Now I
dont have to figure out what I've got by staring at
the little thumbnail.
Thank You
Bekki!
Congratulations to Martha, winner of the award for Feb. 14th.
"This is not original, I have had it so long I can't remember where I got it, here goes---In your FAV.FILE make one called "Dumpster", when you are cleaning your files it saves time from using the Discard, which you have to do one at the time. When you are finished, just discard the whole folder at once.
Nice tip Martha! No need for an explaination here. Makes sense to me."
If you are working on an email, and want to look at something else, before you complete and send it all you have to do is misspell a word or two on purpose and hit the spelling button in the left hand bar of your mail. Wait for it to start checking it, then you can go to what you wanted to check out from there. When you want to come back to your letter to finish it, and sent it, hit your recent button. You can just click on spelling, and it should bring it up. You can finish checking the spelling, and then you click the done button. It should bring your letter you are writing back up to send it. Make sure it doesn't go off your recent screen, before you send it, or you will lose the letter.I hope this helps people out. I use it all the time. Make sure you misspell a word or two, or it wont work. ~Kold
This works very nicely. Thank you Kold!
To check your connection rate, go to your mail, from the sidebar click on settings, then click on word list. Choose add a word and type in then click on done/add. Now anytime you want to see your connection rate just go to your word list.
Yes, here's one from our very own CEO. To me, it's the very definiton of a good tip. Its clear, to the point, and it works like a dream. Thank you Angel155!
Did you know that some people know that if they remove the last part of the url if you post a gif, jpg, midi or wav or any other file you have in a subirectory, they can hack your subdirectory? They will be able to click on and view everything you have in that subdirectory! By removing the last part of the url I mean bringing the url down to: http://www.geocities.com/whatever/mine/gifs By doing so of course they can take any file of yours of any type and " steal" it. You can protect your subdirectories by creating a goaway.html (or something similar) page and then transloading that page and making it an index.html file to your subdirectory. To your subdirectory ((NOT)) to your main file directory. If you transload an index.html file to your main directory is will overwrite the existing index.html file and you WILL lose your webpage. Here is an example for you. I will use the banner that Scott made for me. : ) http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Atlantis/4928/banners /paraban.gif Now, pull up my banner and use your GoTo button and showlast to pull up the url. Remove only the paraban.gif, now go to that page and try to access my banners subdirectory. See what you get? My directory is protected. You can protect yours also. See how simple mine looked? I hope this helps anyone who has unprotected subdirectories. I am sure some of you already know about this, but for those of you who don't, it's important. If you have any questions I will be glad to help more. ~Sherry~
Now that's a mouthfull. I'm still trying to absorb the whole thing, in my mind, but there is no doubt that is an excellent tip.
