To hide any file, you need to have an "index.html" page w/ in that subdirectory. If not, if someone deletes the last part, they will see the list of all your files in that directory. Like this: http://www.geocities.com/l_i_l_l_a_d/pics/

If I didn't have an index file, you could see all my picture files. You can have a different index page in each of your subdirectories. Like: "/pics/index.html" or "/songs/index.html"

Now, for picture files, I like to have that index list of all my pics, but I sure don't want the world to see it, who knows what I be havin' in there :-) So, heres what I did. Move the index file up one level, or rename it. Then go to your Index list w/ all the files, & source it. After you source it, C & C that code, & Paste it in a new file. Give it name that isn't obvious, like name it some thing like: http://www.geocities.com/l_i_l_l_a_d/pics/my_list_of_pics.html

Now just go back & put your index file in place or rename it back to "index.html"

Now whenever you want to see a list of all your pics, you go to the page you made, & don't need to worry that the whole world is gonna see all your naked pictures :-)

Here's a little tip I thought I would pass along to you...In case you weren't aware that when you put your email address in a webpage there are internet bots that spammers use to cruise the net looking for usable email addresses to spam...but ..if you go to this site and use the... "mailto encoder" http://www.siteup.com/free_stuff.html Fill out the form and the codes for your address will be sent to you... This is a great way to fight spam and protect your email address and you can put your address anywhere on the net and it will never be detected by a bot...I use it on all my pages and when someone clicks on it they never know the difference...it works the same as if you wrote it in the way you normally would...this is especially good if your posting other peoples email addresses since it protects them from getting spammed...the only problem is that the person who's address you wish to post has to go to this site and use the "mailto encoder" to get the codes since it will only send the codes to the person requesting them...

A useful tip on how to prevent 'e-mail address seeking bots' from detecting the addys in our Web pages, for those which have them on hand. Rather than employing the standard 'mailto:' command on your page, try this one instead: <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript"> user = "username"; site = "yoursite.com"; document.write('<a href=\"mailto:' + user + '@' + site + '\">'); document.write(user + '@' + site + '</a>'); </SCRIPT> Those 'bots' will be hit with green kryptonite!

You all may already know this, but for those that don't, it saves a lot of "scrolling time" . When you're editing a page in Pagebuilder, and the code is extremely long, after you finish making changes, click the "Tab" key, and it will take you to the "Done" box at the bottom of the page. It saves scrolling down through the code every time, especially on F-Key pages where the code is especially long.(and guess what, it works at Zone, too.)

Here's a tip that will save paper if you print and also allow you to keep them on file on webtv for quick reference. Create a page on pagebuilder and call it "e-mail". Choose any background you like. I use the grey one. Then click on "add text" and title it with whatever subject you wish. Click "done" and add another text area and name it. Save this page to a fav foldrer (from the index... not the published page) then put it on a "F" key. Publish your page.

Now, go to your e-mail list and choose a message you want to save. c/c/p it and add it to the text area for that subject. Publish the page. Continue through your e-mails. By not using graphics, you use very little memory and can store Tons of mail this way.

If you want to then print all the e-mails on any given subject, just put a "page break" before and after that text area and publish. Now all the e-mails are on one page and you can print them out. This will help keep your e-mail list free of clutter as well as making it easier to find the one you are looking for much quicker.

I found a great way to check my spelling! I went to each page and used ccp brought it to mail and then write. ccp the page onto the space for the letter, and used the spell checker. Made notes on all the errors. Went back to page builder and fixed them. Now all my spelling errors are fixed.

If you right frequently to the same group of people, here is a shortcut. Instead of hitting each individual name in your address, put all the addies of the group you write to into one address book entry.
Click on add in your address book. Name the address book entry 'group' or something like that so you know what it is for.
Then, where you enter the address under the name, enter the email addresses of everyone in your group, separated by commas.
Example: him@webtv.net, her@webtv.net, them@webtv.net and so on.
So next time you write a group email to that particular set of people, you just select the one name from your address book.

This is a shared tip. The first part comes from help frank gave me on standard web and e mail page sizes.
The next is how I made my own back ground. I've been doing some playing. width seems to be the most important thing. Height is a little more forgiving.
Webpage: Width=544 Height=384
E-mail Body: Width=388
E-mail Sidebar: Width=110
More info to follow. Recommended height of e-mail bg is from 500 to 900. You can make a bg in your home page and then use the addy: body background=your addy, I think if you use the html method (home page bg URL) Then you will not have to worry about height. I always started with a width of 544 and put align=right in the table. Hope this helps? Til next time, FRANK

(Sherry) What I did ~
1) Took pictures of tree bark and grass(sony camcorder)
2) Took the 2 pix to magick studio twisted and flipped the dickens out of them.
3) The butterfly on the border I also put through My imager some very creative spots here.
4)I made my solid bg width 544 height 100 the butter fly is 70 x 70 and off set was west +20 -15 when I put it through Magick studio's composite.
Your bg width is your choice as well as the size of the pic on your side border.
do you want a space or do you want it seamless. My best tip now PLAY!!!

(And another winner from Frank.) When I sign up at a new site that requires an id/password I enter it into my favs "LOG IN" folder and rename it with my ID name/number and PASSWORD name/number that way I don't have to write/print it out and it's always handy.

Web browsers are case-insensitive to all HTML tags, so you may use B upper case /B or b lower case /b inside the tags as you prefer, just be consistant! "B" mixing cases won't work "b" The recommendation for using upper case, is because if there are problems, or you need to check or change some html coding, you can easily "pick out" the html tags in capital letters. However, file names (for hyperlinks and images) ARE case-sensitive AND very unforgiving of 'typos', and must appear within quotation marks. If you put a space where there shouldn't be one, if you leave out a / or a " or a > where there should be one, and heaven forbid! if you forget to close your table with /TABLE your visitors will have problems viewing your page or connecting via your links.

i saved the page settings page for each of my pages on both of my users, which is what i just finished here,to a folder.now when pb goes crazy i just dip into my settings folder and call up my page.

you can save page builder index page, (i did), scrapbok pages (have to go to folder after EACH save and rename) which i renamed as the page # so i can go right to that scrapbook page. i have email signature page in a folder. i saved page builders add from favorites (any page will do) and now have a master lst of every page in every folder on an fkey for quick reference.how many times have YOU forgotten just which folder you saved a page to.no more! and ,AND, i saved each folder to one folder and put THAT folder on an fkey.

Keeping your Cache clear--What's the Cache? The Cache is your LBB's memory. It is as limited as mine is. Soooo: Delete your Sent and Discarded mail frequently. When your LBB starts to bog down, Recents can be cleared by changing users temporarily. BUT--That only clears what is displayed on your Recent screen. If you went to a Lister, you would see everything you have visited since you powered on.Your internal movements will display as "Hidden," and the URL of everything else would be there. The cache is sort of like a house with several rooms.Clearing Recents doesn't really get rid of them--it just rearranges the furniture. Changing users is like moving to another room temporarily. Until you power off for a minimum of 5 minutes the houseful is still there.
BUT that isn't all, either. Somehow there is a residual in your phone line (I don't understand this AT ALL) Therefore unplugging at least once a week for a minimum of 15 minutes is a good practice. It gives the phone a chance to clear. (My phone man verified this). Most of us who have had the Upgrade have found the so called Cache Clears no longer work, they only clear Recents anyway. Powering off is the ONLY way to clear the Cache.
BTW--You should empty Sents and Discards BEFORE powering off and/or unplugging. First, power off for at least 5 minutes, then unplug. It's worth the effort to have improved performance in the LBB.

If you like to change the music on your mail page frequently, and don't want to use a random midi generator that changes the midi automatically, you can "stack" the midis in your mail code using a simple method to determine which one is to play. You simply place an X in the codes you don't want to play, and leave the one you do alone, then when you want to change the music, go in and put the X in the current playing midi, and remove it from one you want to play next, or add a new midi to your stack. You can have as many as you want in the code. Hope this makes sense, I pasted my current "stack" so you can see what I am talking about. Notice "Dream Weaver" is playing and it's the one with no X in the code.

to keep what's in my folders but still creating more room in my folders, I click on the first saved page, cut n paste it, then go to the next.. click options, click go to, click show current, type an apostrophe, then paste the first url after the apostrophe, then cut n paste both urls then go to the next saved page and keep repeating the process until all my pages are saved.. after that, I go to mail and paste them in one mail to myself.. BUT BEFORE you mail them, you MUST remember to go to each apostrophe and delete it and hit return (creating a space) otherwise all the urls will run together and they will not work for you after you mail them .. this all sounds complicated and time consuming but it really isn't... after you get the mail.. go check it and make sure you can click on the urls so you can use them later then you can delete that entire folder all at once and now can fill it up again.. lol I don't think there's a limit on how many urls you can hold at once.. I believe the most I counted was like 50... I also do this when searching for midis but of course I have to click on show last instead of show current.. .. :)

When using background images:
If you have problems with the image such as a delay in it coming into the page or not coming in at all, make sure the image is not too big in physical size...I used one that was 512 by 512 and 60% of the time, it would not show. I shrunk it and made it 300 by 300 and now it works fine. ( The star-scape in my page ).
