Joe and Tony

Joe Gibbs was an icon in the National Football League's Super Bowl and now he is fast becoming an icon in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series. He has carved a place in history as the only person to have coached a Super Bowl Victory and seen his race team win a victory at the Daytona 500.

He has the same unassuming style of leadership and management in the NASCAR garage as he did in his football career. He began as a player at San Diago State University and earned his place as coach of the Washington Redskins.

Bobby joined Gibbs in 1995, replacing Dale Jarrett. Everyone thought Bobby would at least win his first career victory in the Interstate Batteries Chevrolet that year. Instead Bobby won three times, had two poles and finished 10th that season.

Joe added Tony to his team in 1998. Tony raced in the Busch Series that year, and in 1999 joined Bobby in the Winston Cup.

Joe Gibbs put two teams together that became one. His leadership has led to two great drivers. Adding Tony to the team has been a plus.

I think that Bobby and Tony have been good for each other. Bobby has given Tony his wealth of experience and what to expect. Tony has given Bobby a new outlook and the push to win.

The respect that his people have for him is a tribute to Joe Gibbs. We love you Joe...
