I CANT RESIST LOOKING AT HER.......
THERE IS SOMETHING ABOUT HER ...........THAT SEEMS TO DRAW MY EYES. LOVELY..............
LOVELY...............I THINK..........AND CONTINUE TO STARE.
HAIR..........RAVEN BLACK.....SOFTLY WAVED
ABOUT HER FACE............PINNED LOW AT THE NECK......... IN SUCH A WAY...........AS TO
ACCENTUATE THE BEAUTIFUL FIRMNESS OF HER CHIN. I CANT REMEMBER.................
WHERE I HAVE EVER SEEN SUCH A NICE CHIN...........SO STRONG..........AND GRACEFUL
ABOVE HER WHITE THROAT.......................... ...INSTINCTIVELY .............I KNOW HER CHIN WILL NEVER HAVE A COUNTERPART.
ROSE PETAL LIPS...........KISSABLE..........
DISTINCTIVE...........ALLURING.....I REALIZE
THEY MUST BE CONDUCTIVE OF ADMIRATION IN MEN............AND POSSIBLY
JEALOUSY IN WOMEN.........THERE IS JUST THE HINT OF COQUETRY ABOUT THEM.
HER NOSE........TOO......INTRIGUES ME.
STRAIT SYMMETRICAL ........FINE........IT IS.
HER EYES ARE A DARK LIBPID BLUE............
TIRED..........BUT NONE THE LESS LOVELY.
SHE LOOKS SPANISH........I THINK........OR FRENCH.........AT LEAST.........SHE IS VERY INTERESTING........SHE SEEMS TO BELONG TO GAY CROUDS...........MUSIC.......LAUGHTER
.............THERE IS SO MUCH OF GLAMOR
ABOUT HER..........AND SO..........IS IT VERY
DIFFICULT TO REALIZE THAT SHE IS A WOMAN WHO LOVES TO SING........."SILVER
THREADS AMONG THE GOLD"............"ROCK
OF AGES".......... AND THE LIKE.........THAT SHE
HAS SOME GROWN SONS.....AND DAUGHTERS..........THAT I AM CONSTANTLY ASSOCIATED WITH SUCH...........LOVELINESS.
........STRANGER YET....... THAT SHE IS..........

AUNT EDIE'S MOTHER

Bonny Kelley was my maternal grandmother. This picture was taken when Edith was 16 yrs.
old in 1920. I'm not sure how old grandma was but she was a natural beauty and the mother of 8.

Poem #8

........................ SEVENTH HEAVEN

Mother calls my......abode.....Senevth Heaven.
I live high up .......where thick green tops of trees
brush my window sills. It seems that ......even an
attic.........can grow with beauty......and be dear to
the heart of a poetess....... I have surrounded myself with a few.........beautiful........simple things
A lovely......fragile......old Bible.......aged parchment leaves.......gold on the edges............
fastened with a huge...........tarnished clasp.
Yesterdays Gibson girls.......unframed ....up.on the
wall........lending my....... Heaven.........a delicate
......subdued appeal. Pillows.....cretonne.........
gingham. Cheap.......touching .......little dabs of
color........lying about amiably. My guitar.......
subtly intriguing.....in a corner where a bright
shall inhances a bit of bannister........that would....
....thrust itself.........in........upon me.
It is here that my young sisters came to exchange confidences with me. The one I call........ Gypsy
..........because of her touseled hair...........flying
like a black cloud in the wind........green eyed....
Fern.....piquant. The other a dainty bit of old china
....easily broken.......Violet.
They came to sit wide-eyed at my feet.........their
limited minds dazzled...........because I write things......words........words.....beyond their childish
comprehension.........telling me their little half dreams .........knowing I understand.Then in a little while they go......down.......down......the long
winding stairs..........leaving me ........perhaps........
a little lonely but happier and thankful for the added beauty of their being in my SeventhHeaven
even for a moment
Oh......I must have been young once.......like that
.......and palpitate with youth and dreams.............
but I cant remember...........Twenty five seems...... so ancient......and I have forgotten much.........

THE TWINS -- EDITH'S YOUNGEST SISTERS

.......Violet (my mother) on the left and Fern on the right. They were not identical but enjoyed dressng alike when they were teenagers. Here they are at 16.

Poem # 9 "ECLAT'

I suppose.........a hackneyed word.........or a phrase......worn with utterance .........would mean much to you..........just now.............Oh, I know......
its just that feeling that we all get at times.......and
we crave appreciation...........somehow..........so....
since I'm not much at flattery...........I'll tell you the plain.......honest truth........in the most hackneyed
phrases I know.......I think your a dear.........the
salt of the earth...........so why shouldn't ...............I love you.

POEM #10

.........................."Rebellion"
If only we might have parted a hundred years ago
Then I would have placed a lamp in a high window.
And one dark night in a terrible rain,
You would come stumbling back again.

Now in this age of complexes,no lamp do I own.
And owning one could not use it how ever to atone.
Must I defy modern cutoms that reign,
And buy me a lamp and be merely--insane?
