"THE COWS HAVE MADE A PATH"

The cows have made a path.If you will look,
You'll see it stretching down from barn to brook.

You should not be afraid to roam at will,
Down through the pasture lands and over the hill.

You can not loose your way, be not forlorn.
The cowpath always leads from brook to barn.

You may not find the flowers you seek today:
Cows too go wondering off the beaten way.

POEM # 24

THE GREEN SIDE OF A HILL

...If I could be some part of this earth's plan
I'd rather be the green side of a hill, then be a man.

A pleasant slope of plain grass-covered sod
A passive-humble mound--
that meeting place of man and GOD

What matter if the aftermath
should be a barren scar-
what is a hill without a path ?

Ah--if 'twas so that I could have my will
Then be a man,- I'd rather be
the green side of a hill.
