SEPTEMBER 13, 2009

There was an element of tribute to this one. It was a better tribute than the Emmys, or the Morning Show. There was one bad moment when Morley Safer called Frank Dicopoulos (Frank Cooper) "Fred" Dicopoulos in the voice-over. Dicopoulos has played Frank Cooper for 22 years, and said what he would miss most was his family, that GL was his second family.

Anyway, the show started with Safer saying '60 Minutes' was starting its forty-second year on the air, but compared to Guiding Light is middle-aged. He called it the "oldest, established, permanent floating soap opera ever." He called its fans loyal to the end.

Fans joining GL for the last-day taping, and the crowd setting up for a big cast/crew photo.

Grant Aleksander and Tina Sloane on the last day.

~NEXT: Guiding Light through the decades, an archive of "morals, manners and marital mayhem."~

The radio days.    Ian Zeiring and Page Turco as Cameron Stewart and Dinah Marler.

The 4 Musketeers; Mindy, Rick, Phillip and Beth.    Eleni Cooper (Melina Kanakaredes) and family at Marina's birth: Buzz's Uncle Stavros Kouperakis; Eleni's grandmother, Marina "Ya Ya" Andros, and brothers, Ari and Jori Andros.

The Shaynes. Sarah, Reva, Hawk, Rusty.

One of my personal favorites, Nick, on one of his annual Christmas visits.
