Helen Wagner & Husband
During World War 2
During World War 2, Helen Wagner was a hostess for the USO (United Service Organization) at the Stage Door Canteen where soldiers and sailors would go for a nightclub atmosphere and some fun. Soft drinks were served, and no dating was allowed. Show business personalities would entertain. They would dance and socialize.
Bob Willey was a Broadway producer and actor, and when he reported to the Air Force for duty he was asked to head a military radio broadcast to entertain the troops. He was eventually assigned to the 1st Motion Picture Unit. They made all the training films, and all the propaganda films.
This is a training film featuring him.
After entertaining wounded servicemen all over the country, Helen Wagner's career took off. And after she married Bob Willey, who is also her agent, she became the longest-running cast member of ATWT.
