Runes

An ancient alphabetic script of whose letters possessed a meaningful name as well as a signifying sound, Runes were used for legal documents, for writing poetry, for inscriptions and devination, but they never evolved as a spoken language.
These are in three sections of eight called "aett" ('aettir", plural) as it will aid in remembering their correct order and has significance in their magical use.
