panes of the soul

In lighted streams of cold river ice
I did wander the dark
Seeking the welcoming glow of the lighted pane

I did find one or two...
glimmering in the night but
oft was their light but false reflections
and one that ran with lines of mercury tears

once

I found the true warmth of the lighted pane...
the window beckoning me like the sun
shining thru mosaic tapestry of stained glass
but the light flickered..dimmed..
the house abandoned...
empty as I felt..
again wandering the path of moonbeams
glowing silver on the webs

stars glowed blue but weak...
encouraging me on in their faded light...
stumbling on hard rocks that bruised..
branches that scratched

until I found an arbor...
with a well of water that welcomed reflection...

warm with twin lights that blanketed me...
its empty arches innocent of panes...
that let me look in all directions...
to seek the next moment of truth
