I remember a boy I used to know,
A lad that was always on the go
Chasing fantasy and his dreams
Trying to change reality it seems

Often playing cowboys and Indians
Building Xmas tree forts with friends
Defending all from injustice and sin
Even rallying behind a brave Gunga Din

Learning to believe in right an wrong
Watching Charlie Chan fight the tong
At the Bijou on Saturday afternoons
With Hop-a-Long & Roy fightin' goons

It was easy then, White hats were good
Autrey, Mix you knew where they stood
And then came the Duke and the war
And so many real life GI heroes galore

Then followed a police action a bit silly
They couldn't cross the line, Joe & Willie
The politicians were playing a game
While GI's in holes froze their bodies lame

Then we saved France from an Indo mess
Was said, only need send a thou or less
But it was turned into a devisive absurdity
Troops committed in a political travesty

Citizens abandoning their responsibility
Our present leaders ducking military duty
Revolution and violence in the streets
Politicians accepting strategic defeats

Abandoning the fight, to leave on the run
Honor bruised under the flag by the gun
Can our politicians ever learn to discern
That resorting to war is the very last turn.

It's hard to tell who the good guys are now
Cuz none wear hats when takin' a TV bow
Watch their eyes flit an twitch so rapidly.
I think somethin's goin' on a bit dastardly

Got a strange feelin' I'm bein' lied to again
I'm sure the boy and his idols are in pain
Thinkin' our country's honor is in doubt
Being irresponsibly carelessly cast about

Of non-existent WMD's and openly deny
The lies spewed forth like pie-in-the-sky
The blinders have been removed to see
The evident truths of this political fallacy

Then my friends it's surely time perhaps
To get out all the six guns an chaps,
Mount up and put on the white hats
Call out the calvary ghosts before taps

Ride out of the dust of the past
Putting our personal ambitions last
To try and relieve the people's pain
An put things right with our country once again.
