I watched it flit from blossom to limb
On it's erratic flight seemingly of whim
As our sunlight began to thin and fade
And our surroundings cooled with shade
I watched it come teasingly close to me
Lazily kissing good bye lovely things I see
Savoring a last sip of life's sweet nectar
Ignoring unwanted pollen without lecture
I watched it pass by as do so many things
Like passages of love that our life brings
It lifted colorful wings on a sudden breeze
On a flight of memory 'fore an early freeze
I watched it heading downwind to rest
To finally alight upon a friendly guest
Seeking a last taste of things to adore
It suddenly turned back to seek more
I watched it fly ever so slowly back to me
As the sun slowly dipped beneath the sea
The light dimmed as I felt an angel's kiss
A last message delivered without remiss
