It's almost dark out, it's about that time
For you to go dig out that old mason jar
Beware of that low hanging clothesline
An find our lost youth chasin' a minature star

One of His bugs with a fluorescent fanny
Flitting up against the dark night sky
We can laugh away our troubles many
By reliving our youth with a happy sigh

Remember those warm summer nights
Just chasing this flyin' insect all around
The sky all a sparkle with moving lights
Acting silly, runnin' in circles an fallin' to the ground

T'was just an ordinary looking flying insect
But with a real glow-in-the-dark rear end
Was for mating an other stuff, i suspect
But I never found out, did you my friend

Lightning bugs were part of our summer
Like fireworks, an fresh juicy tomatoes,
Watermelon slabs on ice makin' it colder
July 4th parades an picnic salad potatoes

Just seeing Lightning bugs takes me back
To those echo's of favorite old memories
Simple things on summer nites so black
I can almost feel the joy an hear laughter

Lightning bugs have a purpose after all
As they sparkle thru the nite sky for miles
They're a reminder of One very spiritual
Who created things just to give us smiles

Who as He painted the rear end of a bug
Said "The children are gonna love this
One of My ways of giving them a hug"
An a hope when adult they won't go amiss
