| I tossed and turned for a couple of hours, trying to figure out what this all meant. Finally, I got up for a cup of hot tea from liquid dispenser. We had a few items stored in our little kitchen that we could get by pressing a button. These were automatically refilled by a robot. We had items like sandwiches, meal bars, crackers and cookies that we could access at anytime as well as a variety of beverages. For fancier meals, we had to go to the dining area. The rent for a full stocked room on the Lunar Colony would be out of sight. I sipped my tea, wondering, when the Lunar Colony researchers would come to any conclusions as to the aliens' motives. I went over to my reclining lounge chair and decided to read a relaxing novel from a portable notepad. I finally did fall asleep in the chair after reading a couple of pages. My sunlight alarm woke me up at 0700 hours. I preferred the lighted alarm to a sound alarm. It just seemed more natural to wake up to sunlight. I yelled some commands to the vending dispenser. "computer-vend. coffee, milk, toast and jam". I wasn't too hungry this morning. Still excited from the previous events. Our first contact with an alien race! How exciting! How terrifying! It's hard to know what to feel. They are obviously technologically more advanced than we are. Will they be our friends or foe? Only time will tell. I turned the tv monitor on and a news anchor was anxiously reporting some breaking new. He said, "The aliens are ready to receive visitors on their homeworld. We need 30 volunteers to test their human friendly environments and the food that they've replicated for us. We will be sending emergency supplies and oxygen tablets, in case their man made environment isn't working for us. A small medical staff will be assigned to this mssion. We can not accurately assess the possible danger on this mission, we can only minimize the risk as best we can. We'll send 6 of our most powerful ships to orbit the planet and will stay in contact with all of you by remote com-badges. If we lose contact with anyone for any reason, the mission will be aborted. I thought to myself, "This is the adventure that I've been looking forward to getting on my work/vacation". I went over to the monitor and typed in a request to join the visiting team to the alien world. I didn't even know what they called it, yet. I went back to bed and fell instantly asleep as if this was the decision that I had to make. |
